Novak Djokovic Reaches His First Miami Open Quarterfinal Since 2016; Defeating Lorenzo Mussetti
The domination continues. It has been an absolute thrill watching Novak slowly but surely get back to looking like the man on court he has been for numerous years and seasons. In round four in Miami, of course he put on a show as he had Del Potro and Serena Williams watching and supporting him in the crowd. On Tuesday, Novak Djokovic reaches his first Miami Open Quarterfinal since 2016 after defeating Lorenzo Mussetti.
From start to finish, Djokovic looked pretty solid. Who are we kidding, he looked unstoppable. If he continues playing in this fashion another title could become his very soon.
Against Lorenzo Mussetti during sets Novak was LETHEL. Showing no mercy. Beating him 6-2, 6-2 and thus securing his eighth Miami quarterfinal. Lorenzo had no answers for Djokovic during the match, and Novak refused to make it easy. The six time champion looks to be a deadly opponent to all who shall face him.
Djokovic’s performance is near flawless. He won 10/11 net points. And won 51 percent of first serve return points. This feels like his best outing of this season so far.

What is next? Well, Novak will get a little rest and then it is back to the court. He will face-off against Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinal.
This is a good opportunity and chance for Novak Djokovic to get fans to put some more respect on his name. Since truth be told, for a time he has not played his best tennis. Novak’s last ATP Masters 1000 title was in Paris in 2023. His last final occurred in Shanghai 2024. And his last Miami open title was nine years ago.
But now he looks to be a man on a mission. Renewed and ready to go for it. And of course, he continues to drive towards even more history; when looking over the books on Indian Wells, and Miami Open men’s singles wins since 1985. According to OptaAce, “Novak Djokovic has claimed a 98th combined match win in Indian Wells and Miami – now equal with Andre Agassi (98), Djokovic trails only Roger Federer (122) and Rafael Nadal (99) for match wins at the two events.” Novak is truly one of the greats.
