One of the greatest tennis players (if not the GOAT) continues to become even more historic. On Sunday, the electrifying Novak Djokovic pays tribute to Kobe Bryant as he picks up his fourth U.S. Open title and the BIG 24! Now that is a lot of hardware.
Honestly… It is kind of difficult to put into words the type of greatness we are all witnessing with Novak. Mainly, because no one else has ever done it. Literally, we have hit the realm and dimension of men’s tennis where Novak is breaking his very OWN records.
If you whip open a men’s tennis records book on Grand Slams you would instantly come across a picture of Djokovic. He had already snagged the record for most Grand Slam titles by a man (23). Now with all of his work during 2023, Novak now ups the ante by pushing the titles total to a staggering 24! Unreal.
Moreover, the call on US Open Radio for this latest win summed up the history making moment perfectly. The radio program states:
“Novak Djokovic wins the 2023 U.S. Open title. The greatest gets greater picking up his fourth U.S. Open title and twenty fourth Grand Slam championship. 6-3… 7-6… 6-3; over Danil Medvedev. It’s Djokovic for the fourth time in New York.”

What a moment in time. However, how does this all tie into Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant? Well, all you have to focus on is the number 24.
Kobe Bryant hit the court in that number night after night, game after game. The famous purple and gold star switched to No. 24 during the 2006-07 season. 24 was the number Bryant had rocked in high school at Lower Merion.
The number had significance in Kobe’s career and now it is defining one of Djokovic’s biggest accomplishments. Therefore, from one great to another, Novak acknowledges that him and Kobe both achieved excellence in their respective careers and sports. Iconic.
Novak’s tribute included him slipping on a tee shirt with a picture of him and Kobe Bryant on the front with a giant 24 on the back. Cameras and fans went crazy.
