Noah Lyles Won Gold In Epic Photo Finish
Line up the fastest men in the world and what do you get? Awesomeness! After promising big results, Noah Lyles won gold in an epic photo finish in the men’s 100m final, keeping his world’s fastest man title. But before I go any further, I have to give a shout out to the French first. I have to say that they really know how to set a scene.
Knowing that this race was going to be highly anticipated the host nation really dialed up the drama. They set the stage by turning off all the lights and then lighting up the purple colored track. Strobe lights criss-crossed the stadium as ominous music played loudly in the background. The atmosphere was tense as the crowd was whipped into a fever pitch.
And into this lion’s den the field of competitors walked. Each man was given an elaborate introduction which only made the crowd go wilder. Right from the start Lyles was hyped coming out pounding his chest, hopping and jumping around. Which was in stark contrast to the other runners who each calmly took their place at the blocks.
So when it was time to get set a hush came over the crowd. It seemed like an eternity that the runners were held in the blocks before the announcer finally said “set!” And then the buzzer sounded and the race was on. As usual Jamaican runner, Kishane Thompson, got off to a fast start but everyone else kept up with him. The whole entire time they all were basically neck and neck and it could have been anyone’s race. And that’s why it came down to a photo finish.
Noah Lyles Won Gold In Epic Photo Finish
According to the Olympic rules, the torso has to cross the finish line first. And that’s what gave Lyles the razor thin victory over Thompson. After the race, Thompson told reporters that Lyles said, “Hey Kishane, I think you got it done.” However, it took about a minute before the official results were finally posted. It turned out that Lyles crossed the finish line at 9.784 while Thompson came in at 9.789. The two were separated by five thousandths of a second.
This was Lyle’s first Olympic appearance and he won gold by the narrowest of margins. However, he’ll also have a chance to win gold again in the 200m in about four days. But let’s not forget about his American teammate Fred Kerley. He finished three hundredths of a second behind Lyles at the line winning the bronze medal.
Good job guys!
