Nike Released New USA Olympics Track Uniform Modeled By Sha’Carri Richardson
Can you believe we are only a few months away from the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics? Neither can we, but time keeps marching on. And so there is news coming out of track and field. Nike has released the new USA Olympics Track Uniform modeled by Sha’Carri Richardson, the world’s fastest woman.
Check out the video as posted by @trackspice on X.com. She looks great and definitely in shape. However, her outfit is not the same as what Nike presented at a sneak peak event in Paris. Below is a picture provided by Citius Mag:
It’s clear to see that the women’s one-piece speed suit has an extremely high-cut bikini line. Therefore, it’s not surprising that the uniform immediately drew criticism from women all over the world. One wonders why the women can’t simply wear the same type of shorts that are a part of the men’s uniform. Is it even possible for a woman to run in that uniform without exposing her intimate parts? The high-cut is especially egregious considering the men’s shorts reach mid-thigh.
To understand the disappointment of women regarding the new uniforms we’ve posted some comments below:
“This is clearly a joke,” Femita Ayanbeku, a two-time Paralympian wrote in a comment under an Instagram post of the uniforms. “I’m someone’s mom, I can’t be exposing myself in such ways. Where are the shorts?!”
@saucyminx8 wrote, “@Nike try this out on all your female execs while the entire company watches them in a running rave and see how those female running onesies work out for them. This is RIDICULOUS! Do better, just do it!”

I think Lauren Fleshman, retired U.S. world champion runner summed it up best saying,
“Women’s kits should be in service to performance, mentally and physically. If this outfit was truly beneficial to physical performance, men would wear it. This is not an elite athletic kit for track and field. This is a costume born of patriarchal forces that are no longer welcome or needed to get eyes on women’s sports. … Stop making it harder for half the population @nike @teamusa @usatf.”
So far Nike has not made any comment regarding the negative feedback. However, Janett Nichol, vice president of apparel innovation at Nike told CBS Sports, “They brought athletes in to go through testing and data collection so that the company could design uniforms that will perform at the highest level.”
That seems doubtful but maybe they will have more to say in the coming days.
