Nick Chubb Leaves Cleveland Browns With High Praise From The Owners

It’s the end of an era for the running back who gave the fans plenty to cheer about. He was drafted by the team in the 2018 NFL Draft and spent seven amazing seasons there. While with the team he proved himself to be one of the most dynamic running backs in the history of the franchise. But all good things must come to an end and Nick Chubb leaves the Cleveland Browns with high praise from the team owners.

In a glowing statement from Managing and Principal Partners Dee and Jimmy Haslam they said the following:

“We want to take this opportunity to thank Nick Chubb for all he’s done for the Cleveland Browns. For the last seven years, Nick gave everything he had to our fans, this organization and this city. He always represented our team as the consummate professional and in a manner that showed his passion and love for the game of football.”

“Nick has always been about hard work and letting his play on the field do the talking for him,” Dee and Jimmy Haslam continued in the statement. “We are so grateful for the many moments he created on the field that we will never forget. One moment that stands out most is him stepping out of bounds at the 3-yard line instead of scoring after a 59-yard run to ensure a victory in a game against the Texans in 2020. Nick always puts winning above any personal accolade, and that is what makes him so special. Thank you for being a Brown, Nick, and we look forward to the day we celebrate your career as a member of our Ring of Honor.”

It’s an honor that the team would say they look forward to adding him to their Ring of Honor despite recently signing with another team. According to ESPN Houston Texans reporter DJ Bien-Aime, the Texans announced on Monday that they signed the signed four-time Pro Bowl running back. The deal is for one year and $2.5 million, a source told ESPN, confirming an NFL Network report. It can be worth up to $5 million.

Chubb suffered two major injuries in the past two seasons that left him sidelined. In 2023, he sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 requiring two separate reconstructive knee surgeries. After spending months rehabbing Chubb was able to fight his way back onto the field. Returning in Week 7 against the Bengals of the 2024 season. Sadly, Chubb broke his foot in Week 15 against the Chiefs, which ended his comeback season.

During his seven-year career with the Browns, Chubb recorded 1,340 carries for 6,843 rushing yards and 51 touchdowns, as well as 128 receptions for 1,042 yards and five touchdowns. He leaves the organization with the gratitude and respect of the city. And now he will join the Texans running back Joe Mixon as the 29 year-old continues his NFL career. The Texans hope he can regain his pre-injury production and form.
