Nick Chubb Has Agreed To Restructured Contract With Browns
The future of a fan favorite running back was in doubt. He suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2 of the 2023 season. However, Nick Chubb has agreed to a restructured with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns wanted to make sure Chubb would be a part of the team in 2024. General Manager Andrew Barry had said multiple times that he didn’t want the knee injury Chubb suffered to be his last snap. Therefore, to make that happen a restructured deal was necessary.
Per Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Barry lowered Chubb’s base salary of $11.75 million to probably just over $1 million. However, he can earn the full $12.2 million of his 2024 salary with an incentive package based on playing time and other metrics. Making this move reduced his salary cap charge from $15.85 million to a more manageable $6.275 million. Other Browns players also had their contracts restructured during the offseason.
Chubb has had a history of injuries. So at 28 years old some wonder if he can come back from the serious 2023 injury. In his six year career Chubb has piled up 6,511 yards and 48 rushing touchdowns. And he has played at least 12 games in every year except for last season. Without Chubb, for the first time Cleveland fell out of the top 10 for rushing yards since 2019. Nevertheless, with the restructured contract they will be able to keep Chubb on the team. At the same time it gives him a chance to make a full recovery from his injury and to play again.
Chubb means a lot to the team and to the fans so it was important to get a deal done. In the meantime, the Browns have Jerome Ford, Pierre Strong Jr., and free agent pickup D’Onta Foreman.

He was asked if he would take that call from teams like the 49ers, Patriots, or Raiders. And he said he wouldn’t be opposed to it. He even compared it to a Michael Jordan like comeback. At any rate he said he will always be in good shape and always be able to throw the ball.
