NFL Training Camps are Underway for 2023
It’s the end of July so you know what that means right? Yup, NFL training camps are underway for 2023. Okay so we know training camps are used for a number of things. The coaches get to evaluate players, players get to assess where they are at physically. Teams can work on drills to help improve in certain areas such as their red zone offense, or the two minute drill. A lot of preparation and groundwork goes into training camp. And everyone hopes it will pay dividends in the regular season.
So there has been plenty of happenings in the various training camps so far. One heart-stopping moment was when Joe Burrows had to be carted off the field. No doubt Bengals fans were distraught to see their quarterback go down. But it appears there is good news. According to sources, Burrows has a calf strain. He is expected to be ready to play in the week one opener against the Cleveland Browns.
Ezekiel Elliott visited with the Patriots but did not sign a deal with the team. The team could use some running back depth so we’ll have to see what move the Patriots make next. In the meantime, they have been putting in a lot of red zone practice. That was a glaring weakness for them last season and they are looking to make a major improvement.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce got into shoving matches for two days in a row with teammates. He apologized for the scuffles and said that he, “needs to be a better leader and teammate.” However, as head coach Andy Reid pointed out, “It’s hot, humid, they’re going to jaw a little bit.” Coach has a point, it can be hard to keep your cool when it’s 100 degrees outside. Kelce seems like a good dude, so I’m willing to give him a pass.

It looks like the camps are off to an interesting start. And don’t forget to catch the New York Jets on HBO’s Hard Knocks series. Considering the Jets did not want to participate in the series we may get to see some fireworks there. One can only hope!
Anyway with the start of the training camps that puts us one step closer to the regular season opener. The Detroit Lions will battle the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday September 7 at 8:20 PM EDT on NBC. Maybe by then Travis Kelce will have his cool back.
