NFL Training Camp 2025 Is Underway With News And Notes On The Start
It’s the precursor to the preseason (yay!); which gets us ready for the regular season of the league. It whets our appetites for what we might can expect to see from various teams and players. Yes NFL Training Camp 2025 is underway and we’re here with some news and notes on the start.
All teams have begun their camps with the Atlanta Falcons as well as Pittsburgh Steelers being the last two teams to start camp yesterday; July 23, 2025.
Of course, injuries are what teams fear the most. Therefore to begin, here are some injuries that have been reported.
2025 NFL Camp Injury Report and Updates
The Miami Dolphins
- Dolphins OL Bayron Matos was hurt at the end of today’s practice and airlifted to a medical facility. A team source says he is in stable condition. On Thursday morning, the Dolphins announced that Matos remained in the hospital overnight for evaluation and testing. He has movement in all extremities, but will not be released from professional care just yet. They did not specify what injury he suffered.
- Dolphins veteran CB Artie Burns, injures his knee at practice and leaves on crutches. He was feared to have a torn ACL, per source. Burns is awaiting an MRI and second opinion to confirm. UPDATE: Today it has been confirmed that Burns suffered a torn ACL and will be out for the 2025 season.
The New York Jets
- Today Jets QB Justin Fields is unfortunately carted to the locker room with an apparent lower leg injury. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirms to media that he suffered a toe injury. But the severity of the injury is yet to be determined. NEW INTEL: The Jets have now posted an update: After medical evaluation, QB Justin Fields sustained a dislocated toe in his right foot and will be day-to-day. He thankfully avoids serious injury and significant missed time.
The Arizona Cardinals
- Cardinals linebacker JJ Russell was taken to the hospital after suffering an injury at afternoon practice. He is at a nearby hospital for further testing and evaluation and is being evaluated for a head and neck injury.
So while it looks like Fields dodged a bullet, Burns was not so fortunate as his season is over before it began. And the jury is still out on Matos and Russell.
Besides dealing with injuries, teams have to handle disgruntled players. So far there are two top veteran players holding out. Terry McLaurin and Trey Hendrickson along with rookie Shemar Stewart, the only first-round draft pick yet to sign.

All three players are involved with contract disputes. Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders is frustrated with the lack of contract negotiations. And he did not show up for training camp. We can say the same for the Bengals’ Trey Hendrickson and Shemar Stewart. Hendrickson is also unhappy with how his contract negotiations have not moved forward. Stewart does not agree with the current language in the contract he’s being offered. So he is not at training camp either.
So training camp has provided some drama already. Nevertheless, if you’re wanting to see some NFL; don’t forget to tune into the Hall of Fame game next Thursday July, 31 at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN and ABC.
