NFL Monday Night Doubleheader Featured Both Harbaughs
One was a battle between two 4-2 teams. The other was a clash between two teams trying to stay competitive in their respective divisions. But the other notable fact was that the NFL Monday Night Football doubleheader featured both Harbaughs, Jim and John. Both brothers are fiery and fun to watch. First up was Jim with his Baltimore Ravens against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers opted to take the ball instead of deferring which was a good decision. They gashed the Ravens’s defense with their run game. Baker Mayfield found a wide open Mike Evans in the end zone for the 25-yard touchdown. On Baltimore’s first possession they picked up a couple of first downs but then the protection for Lamar Jackson broke down. Tampa Bay’s defense got back-to-back sacks and forced the Ravens to punt.
The Buccaneers quickly moved down the field and Mayfield found Chris Godwin for a would be touchdown. But it was negated by an offensive holding penalty. They settled for a 23-yard field. The first quarter belonged to the Buccaneers as they led 10-0. But the Ravens started off the second quarter picking up two big first downs. In a few more plays the Ravens were in the red zone. Lamar Jackson tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to Mark Andrews.

Mayfield again marched his team down the field but the run game did the heavy lifting. However, he threw a pass to Mike Evans in the end zone but he couldn’t hold onto the ball. He appeared to re-injure his hamstring and was later ruled out of the game. A couple plays later Mayfield was intercepted in the end zone by Marlon Humphrey. In six plays the Ravens went 90 yards for the touchdown. On the next drive Mayfield tried to hit Chris Godwin but Marlon Humphrey jumped the route and intercepted the ball. The Ravens scored another touchdown and a field goal leading 17-10 at the half.
The Ravens scoring continued in the third quarter while the Buccaneers couldn’t generate much offense running or passing the ball. It wasn’t until a fumble by Lamar Jackson in the fourth quarter that let the Buccaneers back into the game. They took advantage of the fumble scoring a touchdown. The Ravens answered with another touchdown drive that included a 39 yard run by Derrick Henry. After that the Ravens’ defense couldn’t stop the Buccaneers whether they ran or passed the ball. The Bucs scored a touchdown, did a successful onside kick and scored another touchdown. But they ran out of time so Jim Harbaugh and the Ravens won 41.31.
Quick Thoughts on the Chargers @ Cardinals Game
This game wasn’t an offensive free-for-all like the earlier contest. On Arizona’s first drive Kyler Murray tried to pass the ball to James Connor but was intercepted by Teair Tart. Connor chased him down and punched the ball out and it was recovered by Arizona. Murray was struggling to complete his passes early on. But he was better in the second half. However, Marvin Harrison, Jr. wasn’t involved in the game very much and he was visibly upset about it.
Justin Herbert was mostly confined to throwing short, underneath passes making it difficult to get into the end zone. The Chargers couldn’t get their run game going either. J.K. Dobbins was the top rusher with 40 yards on the night. Kicker Cameron Dicker was 5/5 on the field goals, his longest was 59-yards. In the end, John Harbaugh and the Chargers lost 15-17.
