NFL is Launching Men and Women’s Pro Flag Football Leagues

It’s a new day in sports and the National Football League is developing two new leagues. One for men and one for women, with the hopes of both being ready for launch in 2028. Tuesday morning the league officially announced that the NFL is launching men and women’s Pro Flag Football Leagues.

This is a project that is coming to fruition due to some major backing, both financial and name recognition. NFL owners themselves are kicking in around $32 million to get the ball rolling (no pun intended). And other notable players and athletes are bringing their expertise, business acumen and funds to the table as well.

Furthermore, the NFL is revealing that they are now partnering with TMRW Sports, an entity of world-class investors and athletes; in order to launch these new professional Flag Football leagues. Therefore, the new men and women’s league will be backed by a broad investor group, including NFL clubs, Pro Football Hall of Famers, current and former players, institutional investors, and leaders across sports and entertainment. Overall the NFL is coming in strong with serious VC firepower, teaming with TMRW Sports and investors like Silver Lake, Bessemer, Sixth Street and more.

Furthermore, as mentioned a strong group of NFL players and legends are driving the investment group supporting the launch of professional Flag Football. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo this list includes:

“Pro Football Hall of Famers Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Larry Fitzgerald, as well as Tom Brady, Eli Manning, Justin Tuck, Ryan Nece, and Dhani Jones, and current players Arik Armstead, Bobby Wagner, and Russell Wilson. There is also a number of other prominent figures from the sports and entertainment world that are also part of the investment group, including women’s sports champions Billie Jean King, Ilana Kloss, Alex Morgan and Serena Williams. Together, all of these sports stars are investing in the league’s future and helping to shape its long-term vision as both stakeholders and ambassadors.”

Currently, the main goal for the NFL and its numerous investors is to help grow flag football globally. Particularly as the sport prepares for its Olympic debut in 2028. And it looks like development is full speed ahead for all parties with nothing in the way to slow down the process.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports, “The NFL announced a partnership with TMRW Sports, the company behind golf’s TGL, to develop a professional flag football league for men and women that will be backed by all 32 teams. The league has been in the works for two years. Development of the league is still in its “infancy;” one possibility is that the league could have a summer schedule leading into the NFL season.”
