The National Football League continues its ambition to stretch its influence globally. Now two of the league’s franchises will be able to develop and instill the love of the game further in Europe. On Monday, it was announced that the NFL has granted the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints international marketing rights in Italy.
Via social media Cleveland confirmed the news stating, “We are excited to announce that we have been granted marketing rights in Italy. Through the NFL Global Markets Program, we are eager to connect with the Italian community, support American football development from youth to elite levels, and grow the Browns global fanbase.”
New Orleans also shared a brief, but similar announcement online. The franchise mentioned, “Andiamo Saints! The New Orleans Saints have been granted international marketing rights in Italy! We look forward to connecting the Saints brand with fans in Italy, strengthening ties between our regions, and creating meaningful avenues for investment that support businesses throughout our city & state.”
Granting rights to teams has been a positive development and initiative to help grow global interest in the NFL. It has led to the game seeing much success in locations such as the UK, Brazil, Nigeria, Germany as well as Mexico; to name a few. However, the league is continuing its push to add more territories to their ever-growing list.
Regarding the Browns and Saints contributing to these expansion efforts, the league revealed,
