NFL Donated $1.5 Million To Those Affected By Texas Floods and Camp Mystic Tragedy

For decades, the National Football League has made it abundantly clear that they are about family, friends, competition and of course, community. This past weekend the league once more demonstrated their commitment to helping those in need. After a region of Texas was suddenly completely devastated by an unexpected disaster, the NFL Donated $1.5 Million To Those Affected By the Texas Floods and Camp Mystic Tragedy.

On Monday, numerous crews picked through mountains of debris and waded into swollen rivers in the search for victims of catastrophic flooding that killed 104 people over the July Fourth weekend in Texas. Including more than two dozen campers and counselors from an all-girls camp, Camp Mystic. Operators of Mystic confirmed that they have lost an unsettling 27 campers and counselors.

All due to the power of surging flood waters. In a span of 40-45 minutes the rushing floods rose over 20 inches. The ferocious flooding slammed into riverside camps and homes before daybreak last Friday; pulling sleeping people out of their cabins, tents and trailers and dragging them for miles past floating tree trunks and automobiles. Some victims that were survivors were later found clinging to trees.

The Houston Texans and Texas University immediately posted online that their thoughts were with all those affected. Plus, the Texans announced they would be donating $500,000 to help those now dealing with and recovering from the tragedy. Soon, the Dallas Cowboys and NFL would follow suit.

Via NFL.com the league announced all the donations going towards helping Texas. The statement reads:

“The National Football League’s two Texas-based teams – the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans – are uniting with the NFL Foundation to support the victims’ families and survivors of the heartbreaking floods in central Texas [and] those most impacted by the catastrophic flooding.

The NFL Foundation, Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans are combining to contribute $1.5 million toward immediate assistance and long-term recovery resources for central Texas communities impacted by the flash flooding that occurred on July 4, the league announced.
The deadly flash floods began after a storm caused water to overflow from the Guadalupe River, affecting the Texas Hill Country in areas including Kerr County, where a girls’ summer camp was located.”

The search for survivors and missing people continues. However, in moments like this it is heartwarming to see real humanity at work. Witnessing individuals, states, officials, companies and even sports organizations come together to pick up and support those who need a helping hand. Hopefully this trend continues and that these donated resources can make a big difference as well as impact.
