NFC East Tightly Contested Battle Between Giants And Cowboys
Although the Dallas put together good drives they couldn’t punch the ball into the endzone. And while the Giants had a new signal-caller it didn’t appear to be a factor. These were a couple of reasons for the tightly contested battle between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys opened the game with a 6:37, 60-yard drive that ended with a 23-yard field goal. But the Giants answered right back with a lot of run plays. The longest one 28 yards by QB Drew Lock. Tyrone Tracy ran in for the 1-yard touchdown.
The Cowboys used a mixture of passes and runs to get into the red zone but had to settle for a 33-yard field goal. On the kickoff return Eric Gray fumbled the ball but it was recovered by the Giants. However, on the next play DeMarvion Overshawn swatted a Drew Lock pass. And then caught the ball himself and ran it in for a 23-yard touchdown. The Cowboys took the lead 7-13. After that the Giants punted twice while the Cowboys had a turnover on downs. Then they were pinned down on their 1-yard line and had to punt. That put the Giants in great field position but they couldn’t advance the ball settling for a 46-yard field goal.
Both teams couldn’t generate any offense for the rest of the half. Rush and his receivers were not on the same page, as evidenced by CeeDee Lamb’s three dropped passes. They went into halftime with the Cowboys up 10-13. Starting the third quarter the Giants’ Lock tried to run the ball and fumbled which the Cowboys recovered. KaVontae Turpin had a big 30-yard reception converting a 3rd & 10. It looked like QB Cooper Rush fumbled the ball but he was ruled down. Brandin Cooks then caught the 2-yard touchdown pass.

The Giants offensive struggles continued with Lock getting sacked and they had to punt. But the Cowboys offense stayed hot especially with a 36 yard reception by Jalen Tolbert. Rico Dowdle ran in the 4-yard touchdown. But the Giants rallied on their next drive and scored a 47-yard field goal. Then they put together a 76-yard drive ending with Lock scrambling for the eight-yard touchdown. But the depleted Giants defense couldn’t get a stop and the Cowboys held on for the 20-27 win. It was their eighth straight victory against the G-men.
Although they lost the game the Giants looked like they played better today than they have this season. Working with his receivers more should improve Lock’s chemistry with them. Maybe the Giants should have benched Jones earlier. We’ll see what happens going forward.
