Time flew by as another season has concluded. Here are some news and notes on NFL Week 18 of the 2023 regular season. There is rampant speculation as to whether Bill Belichick coached his last game for the New England Patriots. And if so, where will he land next? He has indicated that he still enjoys coaching and wants to continue.
NFL fans have been extending warm wishes and congratulations to the Houston Texans. They are especially happy to see the success of rookie head coach DeMeco Ryans and QB C.J. Stroud. According to Will Kunkle, “The Texans are the first team in NFL history to win their division with a rookie head coach and rookie quarterback.” I think we’re all excited to see what they will do in the playoffs.
The New Orleans Saints caused a stir. They intercepted the Falcons and took it to about the one yard line with less than two minutes left in the game. Saints players asked head coach Dennis Allen if Jamaal Williams could get the touchdown. Allen said no just take a knee and that the players ran the play anyway.
Head coach of the Falcons Arthur Smith was hot. After the game he gave Allen an earful for scoring the touchdown. Some lost respect for Allen saying he threw his players under the bus. And that they obviously don’t respect the coach since they ignored him and ran the play. As for Smith people feel that he had no right to be upset. After all the game was already lost.
After being much maligned all season long, Mike Tomlin and the Steelers secured the 7th seed in the AFC for the playoffs. Despite not having a losing season throughout his career, fans were unhappy. They wanted more and now they have it. A chance for the Steelers to hoist the Lombardi Trophy again.
News And Notes On NFL Week 18 2023 Regular Season
Bad news for the Detroit Lions, as TE Sam LaPorta suffered a hyper-extended knee injury. He is expected to miss some time but all the details are not known at this time. Furthermore, there is talk of some key veterans possibly retiring. Special Teams ace Matthew Slater of the Patriots and defensive end Calais Campbell of the Falcons. If so both players had excellent careers and will be missed.
But for now we can look forward to the playoffs next week!
