News And Notes About NFL Week 7

News And Notes About NFL Week 7

The Patriots and Jaguars faced off in London in early Sunday morning action. C.J. Stroud and Jordan Love battled it out in Green Bay. And it was a tough week for quarterbacks as some left games with injuries. So let’s get to the news and notes about NFL Week 7 starting with the international game in London.

Patriots @ Jaguars – Drake Maye helped the Patriots get off to a fast starting jumping out to a 10-0 lead. However, their special teams threw a wet blanket over the party as they gave up a 96-yard punt return for a touchdown. In the second half the Patriots defense was gouged by Jacksonville’s running game. And they allowed them to go on long time-consuming drives. But Drake Maye did lead a quick and impressive fourth quarter drive pulling the Patriots within 9 points. The two-point conversion failed and that was it for the Patriots. Despite the team saying this is a rebuilding year, it looks like they just might have their franchise quarterback in Drake Maye. But he’s definitely going to need some help from both sides of the ball.

Seahawks @ Falcons – The Seahawks went to Atlanta and decisively ended their three-game losing streak. QB Kirk Cousins struggled during the game, throwing two interceptions and had a fumble recovered by Seattle. Penalties killed the Falcons as they had multiple false starts. Julian Love corralled the Seahawks’ first interception since Week 1. Seahawks rolled to a 34-14 victory.

News And Notes About NFL Week 7

Titans @ Bills – The Titans scored first and got off to a 10-0 lead while the Bills’ had four of their six drives end in three-and-outs. But the Bills came alive in the third quarter. Despite just being traded to the Bills, Amari Cooper scored his first touchdown with the team. It was Josh Allen’s 100th start and he made it a good one, throwing for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns. The Bills ended up scoring 27 unanswered points beating the Titans 34-10.

Bengals @ Browns – The Bengals set the tone with a 100-yard yard touchdown on the opening kick by Charlie Jones. Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins were excellent when it came to yards after catch. Trey Hendrickson was wreaking havoc with multiple pressures, two sacks and two tipped passes. Whereas Deshaun Watson suffered what appeared to be an Achilles injury and was carted off the field with the fans booing him. Dang! However, Nick Chubb made his debut and ran in a one-yard touchdown. But it was all punts and interceptions for the Browns in the second half. Jameis Winston replaced Dorian Thompson-Robinson and led them on a touchdown drive. But it was too late and the Bengals won 21-14.

Texans @ Packers – I think we all were expecting this to be a good game and it didn’t disappoint. There were seven lead changes, the Packers survived three turnovers in the first half, including two interceptions by Jordan Love. C.J. Stroud was 10 of 21 for a career-low 86 yards and was sacked four times. But Joe Mixon rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. The Packers had replaced struggling kicker Brayden Narveson this week with Brandon McManus. That proved to be a wise decision as he kicked the game-winning 45-yard field goal giving the Packers the 24-22 win.

More Notes On the Sunday Games

Dolphins @ Colts – Things didn’t go well for the Dolphins. QB Tyler Huntley was knocked out of the game with a shoulder injury in the 3rd quarter. Tim Boyle came in the game leading a drive that could have tied up the game at 13. But Jason Sanders missed a 54-yard field goal with about 5 minutes left in the game. Things weren’t much better for the Colts who went three-and-out on half of their dozen possessions. But their defense made plenty of plays keeping them in the game. It was an ugly win but the colts got the 10-16 victory.

Lions @ Vikings – Another game that was expected to be highly contested lived up to the hype. The Lions had their first double-digit deficit of the season but rectified things by piling up 21 unanswered points. That led to the Vikings going into halftime with their first deficit since Week 1. Both teams are executing at a high level and minimizing turnovers. With the 31-29 win the Lions now sit atop the NFC North division handing the Vikings their first loss.

Eagles @ Giants – The Giants traded Saquon Barkley to the Eagles and he made them pay for it. He was so dominant that he sat out the fourth quarter. He rushed for a total of 176 yards, the most he has ever run for in the Giants’ stadium. Giants’ QB Daniel Jones was benched early in the fourth quarter. It was another ugly loss for the Giants, 28-3.

Later Afternoon Games Action

Raiders @ Chargers – The Raiders lost their third straight game Sunday and weren’t competitive. Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell left the game with a thumb injury. Gardner Minshew replaced him and threw three interceptions and had a fumble. The Chargers defense showed up even if the offense didn’t. But they did convert three of the Raiders’ turnovers into touchdowns. It wasn’t a pretty 15-20 win for the Chargers but it did end their two-game losing streak.

Panthers @ Commanders – Andy Dalton threw two interceptions in the first quarter. The first of which resulted in a 67-yard pick-6 for the Commanders on the Panthers opening drive. Dalton finished 11-of-16 passing for 93 yards. On the other end of the spectrum the Commanders piled up 421 yards with 214 of them on the ground. Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels left with a rib injury with the score 10-0. But Marcus Mariota stepped in and took over for the rest of the game. The Panthers’ defense tried to put up a fight but were without six of their seven projected starters. It ended up a 7-40 blowout. The Panthers are in trouble.

Chiefs @ 49ers – It’s official, the Chiefs are the 49ers kryptonite. This was the fifth meeting between these two teams in the Kyle Shanahan-John Lynch era. However, both teams were down some of their top offensive players. Yet, when Ricky Pearsall caaught his first pass in the final minute of the second quarter it fired up the crowd and the 49ers offense. Brock Purdy drove his team down the field and scored a 24-yard field goal. But they couldn’t generate enough offense to overtake the Chiefs. Despite Patrick Mahomes throwing 2 interceptions and only passing for 154 yards his team still got the 28-18 victory.

Sunday Night Football Notes

Jets @ Steelers – Welcome back Russell Wilson. He made his debut for the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. In the beginning he looked a little rusty which was understandable; he hasn’t played in months. And the Steelers’ defense also looked a little out of sorts as they were missing tackles and allowing big runs. Aaron Rodgers and his offense looked sharp as he connected with his new weapon Davante Adams.

However, as the game progressed the tables turned and the Steelers started to look more comfortable on both sides of the ball. Wilson provided the deep ball threat that the Steelers have been missing. Their defense shut out the Jets’ offense in the second half. Rodgers was intercepted, they missed a field goal and they had a turnover on downs. After leading 15-6 at the half the Jets were outplayed losing 15-37.
