New York Mets Sign Harrison Bader

New York Mets Sign Harrison Bader- One Year Deal Approximately $10 Million

The Mets have been a quiet, sleeping giant this off-season. However, now the ball club is beginning to awake from their slumber; and make some moves for the upcoming season. In order to help bolster their roster, the New York Mets sign Harrison Bader to an one year deal.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today instantly heralded the news to the masses. Bob says,

“The New York Mets sign center fielder Harrison Bader to a one-year, $10.5 million contract. Andy Martino and Joel Sherman were on it. The move likely shifts Brandon Nimmo to a corner outfield spot.”

Will Nimmo really have to shift to another spot? Seems very odd, especially for a guy paid over $160 million in a 8 year contract; that stands to make over $20 million during the 2024 season. That’s a lot of dough to spend on a guy to just toss him anywhere.

Nevertheless, a few other thoughts and details have come forth about this situation. So then, how will the Mets juggle and handle Bader and Nimmo? Joel Sherman and Andy Martino weigh in.

New York Mets Sign Harrison Bader- One Year Deal Approximately $10 Million

Let’s begin with Baseball columnist and MLB insider for the New York Post, Joel Sherman. Sherman seems to agree with Bob on Nimmo, somewhat being used in a corner. Joel states,

“Mets have agreed with Harrison Bader for one year at $10.5M. At the least, the Mets get Bader’s high-end defense in CF and can play Nimmo in a corner some. They will hope his offense can climb closer to league average. Andy Martino was 1st that there was a deal.”

However, since Andy was first on the story of the Bader deal, it’s probably good to get some intel from him as well. Andy Martino who reports on the Mets and New York Yankees for SNY mentions,

“Source: Mets sign Harrison Bader. 1 year, approx $10 mil.

Mets’ Brandon Nimmo is not being moved permanently off center field. Bader will obviously play CF when he’s in the lineup, which should be a good amount, but Carlos Mendoza simply has more options for alignments now.”
