The season is over, the postseason is over. Yet, good news just keeps coming. Once again the women’s national basketball association shows why they are “in the money.” What’s the latest?This week it was revealed that the New York Liberty broke the Fanatics all-time WNBA championship sales record.
The Liberty had seen a major uptick all season. With attendance and viewership. They enjoyed a huge season opener as Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever came to town. But the home team fans kept showing up all year. Bringing the franchise good energy and vibes.
According to NBC New York, “[The Liberty] had the second best home attendance this season, averaging more than 12,700 fans. Games are loud and entertaining, giving the Liberty an edge when they play at Barclays Center. It’s also become a spot for celebrities with Spike Lee, Jason Sudeikis, Alicia Keys and many others making appearances.”
When a team becomes one of the hottest tickets in town when it comes to sports; an organization can see an instant rise in something else. Merchandise. Yes, merch sales tend to go up as a team’s popularity or performance, increases or gains additional attention. So then, seeing New York do numbers in merch is not that surprising.

Nevertheless, what record did the Liberty break in terms of sales? As mentioned by Sportico,
“Fanatics announced Monday that its previous all-time, 30-day, post-WNBA Finals sales record was broken by the new champion New York Liberty, whose championship merchandise became the fastest selling in league history in fewer than 24 hours.
Fanatics’ announcement via X/Twitter came less than 16 hours after the final buzzer sounded at Barclays Center in Brooklyn as the Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx in overtime of a winner-take-all Game 5. The previous record was in 2021 when the Chicago Sky, led by hometown legend Candace Parker, won their first championship over the Phoenix Mercury.
A Fanatics spokesperson told Sportico that among the five best-selling products are a shirt designed by apparel maker Stadium Essentials, a hoodie from black women-owned streetwear brand Playa Society and a “special event” white shirt from Nike that will be worn during the upcoming parade, featuring the arm of Lady Liberty holding the torch while adorning a championship ring.”
Nice. Well, this is a very exciting piece of news to end the WNBA season with until next year. 2024 has been absolutely epic. Nonetheless, congratulations again to the Liberty on winning their first championship in franchise history and we can’t wait to see them try to do it again in 2025.
