New York Jets Traded Sauce Gardner to Colts Ahead of Trade Deadline
“New York it’s been real.” Sauce Gardner kept it very brief and simple saying his goodbyes to the Jets fandom during early afternoon. The CB had been informed of the news that he would be heading to Indianapolis. On Tuesday, the New York Jets traded Sauce Gardner to the Colts ahead of the trade deadline for not one, but two first round picks.
New York is currently sitting at 1-7. The franchise finally got their first win of the season under new head coach, Aaron Glenn; just last week (October 26, 2025). All thanks to a 39-38 comeback victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The win came after trailing significantly in the fourth quarter, and featured a game-winning touchdown pass from Breece Hall to Mason Taylor.
But outside of this lone bright spot; the Jets certainly have some rebuilding to do. And by trading one of their guys they are setting themselves up to get their hands on some elite first round talent to go along with the likes of Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson.
But the 7-2 Colts are getting an excellent deal and option as well. Gardner is great at setting up a “no fly zone” in games. Very good at causing incompletions. In fact, regarding Sauce, NextGen Stats reveals,
“Sauce Gardner has faced opponent #1 receivers on 45.5% of his coverage matchups, the NFL’s highest rate (min. 125 matchups).
When targeted, he has forced tight windows (<1 yard of separation) at a 52.0% rate, also leading the league (min. 20 targets).”

How about this season? How is he doing? The man is lights out. Sauce Gardner has not allowed more than two receptions to a single receiver in a game this season.
Amazing. Therefore, Gardner will be a nice piece and addition as Indianapolis heads towards the playoffs to compete for a championship. NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport summed up the trade by also reporting on the financials; Ian says, “The Colts get Sauce Gardner for the next 5.5 years under a contract worth $131.5M — taking out what NYJ already paid. $625k for the remainder of 2025 and then an average of $26.1M for the next 5 years.”
