New York Jets Could Lose Guard Alijah Vera-Tucker For The 2025 Season
With the new NFL regular season getting underway tomorrow no team wants to get bad news about a player. However, that’s what has happened in the Big Apple. As reported by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the New York Jets could lose guard Alijah Vera-Tucker for the 2025 season. Apparently he has suffered a tricep injury at Tuesday’s practice. Vera-Tucker is one of the Jets best offensive lineman so his loss would be keenly felt.
As Schefter went on to report:
“Sources: Jets fear that guard Alijah Vera-Tucker suffered a season-ending torn tricep. He is getting a second opinion to confirm the injury and see if surgery is necessary.”
Sadly, this would be the second tricep injury that he has faced. He had the same injury on his other arm in 2022. However, it was known that Vera-Tucker was susceptible to injuries coming out of college. But the Jets drafted him in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, with the 14th overall pick. After all he was a two-time All-Pac-12 selection and winner of the Morris Trophy in 2020 while playing for the USC Trojans. So despite his injury history he was still a productive player.
After joining the NFL he missed extended time in two of his four seasons because of injuries. In the 2022 and 2023 seasons he played in seven and five games respectively. And he also missed 12 games in 2023 because of a torn Achilles. This latest injury comes at the worst time possible, as the 26 year-old is in the final year of his rookie contract. Head coach Aaron Glenn had expressed interest in extending Vera-Tucker’s contract. But his durability issues could bring that talk to a halt. However, he is guaranteed to make $15.3 million, the amount of his fifth-year option.

There’s also another reason why his potential absence will be felt. The Jets drafted Armand Membou in the first round to play next to Vera-Tucker. Now he may not get to benefit from the veteran’s presence. But the good news is that Membou has shown great promise at the right guard position. And the Jets’ offensive line is one of the team’s strengths so no doubt they will make the necessary adjustments to account for Vera-Tucker.
As for Vera-Tucker, he was happy that this had been the first offseason since 2022 that he didn’t have to rehab from a major injury. He stated:
“I tell people all the time, this is the best I’ve ever felt coming off an offseason,” he said in late July.
Vera-Tucker was voted a captain earlier in the week by his teammates.
