New York Jets And Wide Receiver Garrett Wilson Reached Agreement On New Extension
He’s only got three years of NFL experience under his belt but is considered one of the premier pass-catchers in the league. He was drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft and has proven his value to the team. And today validation was given because the New York Jets and wide receiver Garrett Wilson have reached an agreement on a new extension. The new deal will keep the receiver with the Jets through the 2030 season.
Details about the agreement were provided by ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter who posted on social media:
“ESPN sources: Jets and wide receiver Garrett Wilson reached agreement on a four-year, $130 million contract extension that includes $90 million guaranteed. It marks the first time in NFL history that a receiver has received an average over $31 million after playing only three seasons. Wilson now will be under contract the next six seasons, through 2030. Agents Jeff Nalley and Graylan Crain of CAA negotiated the deal with Jets executives Nick Sabella and Darren Mougey.”
“Garrett Wilson has played in every single game for the Jets since arriving in 2022 — 51 out of a possible 51 — and has topped 1,000 yards each season despite catching passes from seven different quarterbacks.”
Wilson had two years remaining on his rookie contract, including his fifth-year option in 2026 ($16.8 million guaranteed). Getting this deal done was a priority for the new regime headed by coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. They made it clear from the start that keeping their top young players was a priority. Something the previous regimes had not accomplished. Per Jets reporter Rich Cimini, Glenn had said he wanted to get Wilson the ball “as much as possible.”
Wilson and previous Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not see eye-to-eye last season leading to a tense relationship. Now he’ll be catching passes from Justin Fields, his former Ohio State teammate. Both are said to be very happy about the reunion.

The Jets still have more work to do when it comes to signing their other young talent. Adam Schefter posted the following:
“Garrett Wilson is the first player from the Jets’ 2022 draft class to get extended — but he won’t be the last. That class also included CB Sauce Gardner (No. 4), OLB Jermaine Johnson II (No. 26), RB Breece Hall (No. 36), TE Jeremy Ruckert (No. 101), OT Max Mitchell (No. 111), and DL Michael Clemons (No. 117) — all who are still with the organization.”
In the meantime, Wilson’s new deal makes him the fifth-highest paid receiver in the NFL on a per-year basis:
- Ja’Marr Chase: $40.25M
- Justin Jefferson: $35M
- CeeDee Lamb: $34M
- DK Metcalf: $33M
- Garrett Wilson: $32.5M
- A.J. Brown: $32M
“I’m hopeful I’m a Jet for life and that we get this thing rolling and that all of our best days are ahead of us,” Wilson said in May. It looks like he’s getting his wish. Congratulations to Wilson on his new long-term deal!
