New York Jets And Cornerback Sauce Gardner Agreed To Terms On A New Deal
The team is living up to it’s name with the speedy deals they have gotten done this week. On Monday it was Garrett Wilson who was signed to a new lengthy extension. And now they have hopped to the other side of the ball to get another player under contract. Yesterday, the New York Jets and cornerback Sauce Gardner agreed to terms on a new deal. Like his teammate Wilson, the new extension will keep Gardner with the team through the 2030 season.
New York’s new regime of head coach and general manager made it known that they wanted to keep their top, young talent under contract. Gardner posted about the deal being done on his x.com account saying:
“THE DEAL IS DONE this only the beginning. my brother @allantegardner bts & @ajv got it done. I appreciate the Jets organization for believing in me, my teammates for the blood, sweat, & tears we put in, and JETS NATION… I appreciate y’all supporting me Thank you GOD”
Coming in with the details is Adam Schefter who posted about the deal stating:
“Term update: Jets and CB Sauce Gardner reached the agreement on a four-year deal that ties him to the team for the next six seasons, through 2030. It’s the same structure and length as Garrett Wilson’s deal Monday. Gardner’s deal includes $60 million guaranteed.”
“The four-year extension is worth an average of $30.1 million per year.”
Adding more context to the story is ESPN staff writer, Rich Cimini who said that Sauce Gardner had two years remaining on his rookie contract. Including his fifth-year option in 2026 ($20.2 million guaranteed). Gardner and Wilson became the first two former first-round picks under the NFL’s current financial system, which went into effect in 2011, to receive extensions in their first year of eligibility (after three years).

Despite having only played in the league for three years, Gardner has accumulated some impressive accolades. He was Defensive Rookie of the Year, a 2x First-Team All-Pro and selected to the Pro Bowl twice. He’s the only cornerback since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 to be named first-team All-Pro in each of his first two seasons. So it seems appropriate that his new extension now makes him the highest paid CB in NFL history.
It would also seem that with the Jets taking a proactive approach to getting their top, young talent signed things are changing in the organization. But will the changes be for the better? We can hardly wait to find out; but fortunately the regular season opener is just about eight weeks away. However, congratulations to Sauce Gardner on his new extension!
