New York Giants Found Their Starting Quarterback While Losing Their Star Wide Receiver

In his Week 4 debut against the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers he played with confidence. He didn’t appear to get rattled by all the things going on around him. In some instances it was easy to forget that he is a rookie. On the other hand, his teammate had already shown himself to be a star on the rise. But in the same game he would suffer a devastating injury. And so it seems the New York Giants have found their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart while losing their star wide receiver, Malik Nabers.

While Dart only threw for 111 yards in the game against the Chargers, he completed 13 of his 20 attempts. He rushed for a 15-yard touchdown while throwing one to Theo Johnson. His first play of the game was a handoff to rookie running back Cam Skattebo and his first completion was a seven-yard gain to Nabers. Dart also completed his inaugural drive with the 15-yard rushing touchdown he scored. Not bad for a rookie quarterback’s debut. And having the hard charging rushing skill of Skattebo is a young quarterback’s best friend.

In fact, Dart was good at using his own legs throughout the game. Picking up first downs and tucking the ball and running when there were no open receivers. He did his best to make the most of every play and avoided throwing any interceptions. However, he did take some lumps having been sacked five times during the game. But even Russell Wilson got sacked when he had to come into the game briefly when Dart was being checked for a possible concussion. But he was cleared to play and came back into the game.

He’ll have to work on feeling the rush and avoiding the defensive pressure to limit the number of sacks he takes. And the offensive line has to do a better job as well.

Having a confident young quarterback, a battering ram running back and a gifted wide receiver is the trio every team wants. And it looked like the Giants might have that but we won’t find that out this season. Malik Nabers suffered a torn ACL and is out for the rest of the season. Head coach Brian Daboll confirmed the news on Monday after the Giants’ 21-18 victory over the Chargers. The injury occurred with 6:12 left in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. He was attempting to catch a deep pass from Dart.

Nabers made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2024 after breaking the franchise’s single-season reception record. Now the Giants will need someone to fill his void. Currently they have Wan’Dale Robinson who is tied with Nabers for the team lead in receptions and ranks second with 237 receiving yards. Darius Slayton is next with 135 yards and Jalin Hyatt played 29 snaps on Sunday.

So congratulations to Jaxson Dart and his exciting NFL debut. And we wish a speedy recovery and best wishes to Malik Nabers.
