New York Giants’ All Pro Tackle Dexter Lawrence Is Frustrated Requested for a Trade

He has been a stalwart defender for the team since he was drafted in 2019. His presence in the middle of the defense has been not just noteworthy but necessary. Especially for a team that has been in struggle mode for multiple years now. His value to the team is quantifiable based on his Pro Bowl selections from 2022 – 2024. As well as his two second-team All Pro selections. Nevertheless, trouble is brewing in the Big Apple. New York Giants’ All Pro tackle Dexter Lawrence is frustrated and has requested for a trade.

Lawrence’s importance to the team was made manifest when the Giants signed him to a four-year, $90 million dollar expansion in 2023. But this time around things are playing out differently. Over the last two offseasons efforts have been made to strike a new deal but without results. Which led to trade rumors surrounding Lawrence. However, GM Joe Schoen wanted a significant return if he were to trade Lawrence. Now however, Lawrence has requested a trade.

When Lawrence signed his deal in May 2023, it made him the third highest-paid interior defensive lineman. A fitting spot since his 2022-2024 seasons were highly productive. However, 2025 had a different outcome as he only produced a half sack in 17 games and a career low 31 tackles for the season. But despite a lackluster season last year he still remains a disruptive defensive factor and is part of a talented defensive front. But without any progress being made on a new deal Lawrence has decided not to participate in the team’s offseason workouts which begin on Tuesday. These workouts are voluntary so there will be no punishment for Lawrence.

But just because Lawrence requested the trade doesn’t mean it will happen. He’s 28 years old and in his prime. Will the general manager want to entertain any potential trades? Or will he be moved to work to work to get another extension done for the defensive tackle? Right now, the two parties haven’t been able to reach a satisfactory agreement.

There are potential landing spots. One could be the Baltimore Ravens who had one of their worst defensive seasons last year. The Ravens signed former Bengals’ tackle Trey Hendrickson who they had hoped to pair with Raiders’ Maxx Crosby. But they backed out of the deal with Crosby so Lawrence could slide into that position. But would former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, now head coach of the Giants, want to make that trade?
