New Orleans Saints’ Ryan Ramcyzk Announced His Retirement

It was just one day after being named as the Saints’ guest announcer for their Day 2 draft picks. Although it had been expected that this announcement would be coming soon. After all, he had not played a game since 2023. Therefore yesterday, on Instagram, New Orleans Saint’s Ryan Ramczyk announced his retirement after seven seasons in the NFL. Ramczyk had been battling knee issues during the 2021 season, and he missed seven games that year. The issues were a result of the cartilage defect in one of his knees.

Ramczyk was one of two Saints’ first-round picks in the 2017 draft, he was the 32nd pick. Cornerback Marshon Lattimore was the other with the 11th overall pick. Both of them made impacts on the team becoming Pro Bowlers. Lattimore became a key part of the Saints’ defense. While as the right tackle on the team, Ramczyk became a cornerstone of the offensive line. They were part of an elite 2017 draft class that included Alvin Kamara, Trey Hendrickson, Marcus Williams and Alex Anzalone.

Despite battling knee issues during his career he still brought great value to the team. Some of his accomplishments were detailed by the team:

“He was a stalwart on the right side, starting all 101 regular season games he has played in, 98 on the right side, in his seven campaigns and was named to the Associated Press All-Pro team for three consecutive years (2018-20). He joined William Roaf as only the second Saints tackle to be named AP All-Pro three times.”

Although he was able to manage his knee issues throughout the 2022 season, things started to go downhill in 2023. He was eventually placed on injured reserve, missing the final four games.

The Saints were aware that the retirement announcement was coming. But they wanted him to make the announcement according to his own timetable. And so that’s what he did on Instagram when he posted the following statement:

“What an incredible journey it’s been. My path to the NFL wasn’t a straight line, it wasn’t the story most people expect. There were moments when people doubted me, moments when I doubted myself. It’s funny how life works out. Sometimes the road less traveled leads to places you never expected, but it ends up being exactly where you were meant to be. Today I reflect on all the twists and turns that got me to this point, from technical college to become a “welder” to All-Pro in the NFL. As I step into retirement, I’m filled with gratitude for everything this sport has given me.”

Well now that it’s official we wish a hearty congratulations on a successful career. All the best wishes to Ryan on his retirement!
