NBC Sports Working To Keep Cris Collinsworth On Board
He’s been in the broadcasting booth for more than three decades. Thanks to his long relationship with NBC he’s become a household name. Therefore, it’s logical that NBC Sports is working to keep Cris Collinsworth on board. They are working on a deal to retain Collinsworth as their lead NFL game analyst through the end of the decade as reported by The Atlantic. Collinsworth had been paired with Al Michaels in the booth. But Michaels was replaced by Mike Tirico for the 2022-23 season. Michaels moved on to the Amazon Prime Thursday Night Football show. If the deal gets done Collinsworth will call NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” prime time games with Mike Tirico through the 2029-2030 season.
NBC Sports is willing to bet on the 65 year old Collinsworth. As he has been well received throughout his career. His current contract runs through the 2026 season. It’s rumored that the new deal is expected to be a four-year agreement. Currently, he makes approximately $12.5 million a year, according to sources briefed on his deal. He’ll definitely get a nice bump in his salary. But likely less than the $37.5 million per year Fox pays Tom Brady. And the $18 million per season CBS and ESPN respectively dole out to Tony Romo and Troy Aikman.
With the years added on to his contract Collinsworth will have the opportunity to call two more Super Bowls. NBC is scheduled to broadcast two more Super Bowls in the next six years, including Super Bowl 60 in 2026 and Super Bowl 64 in 2030.

Collinsworth has worked on many other broadcasting jobs. He was on Inside the NFL formerly on HBO and now on Showtime. He worked alongside Bob Costas at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. And they paired up again in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada. He even did the color commentator for Madden NFL 09 and Madden NFL 10 with Tom Hammond. And Madden NFL 11 and Madden NFL 12 with Gus Johnson. And speaking of John Madden, Collinsworth filled the role vacated by Madden on Sunday Night Football in 2009. Thus the start of his 16 year tenure with the show.
Collinsworth is a 17-time Sports Emmy Award winner (eight for studio analyst and nine for field analyst). In 2023, he was inducted into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. With a new deal on the horizon, Collinsworth’s legacy will continue.
