NBA Lottery 2025–Cooper Flagg Could Be Heading to Dallas Mavericks

NBA Lottery 2025–Cooper Flagg Could Be Heading to Dallas Mavericks

With the draft just six weeks away, it is now lottery time. Time to cement how franchises and organizations will fairly select new pieces for their future rosters. During the NBA Lottery 2025 broadcast we learned not only the who picks first but where Cooper Flagg may land.

The NBA Communications and PR page had reminded fans early on Monday that, “The 2025 NBA Draft Lottery presented by State Farm will be held in Chicago and air live at 7:00 PM ET on ESPN.” The page also revealed some lottery predictions. As to which teams could pick the top ten draftees. They predicted the following teams would select first: Utah, Washington, Charlotte, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Toronto, San Antonio, Houston and Portland.

But how does the NBA Lottery actually work? The National Basketball Association explains,

“The teams that are eligible for the Draft Lottery are the 14 teams that didn’t make the 2025 NBA Playoffs.

The NBA Board of Governors approved changes to the lottery system on Sept. 28, 2017. Under the revamped format (which began with the 2019 Draft), the NBA Draft Lottery will ensure that the team with the worst record will receive no worse than the fifth pick. After drawings are conducted for the first four picks of the NBA Draft, the other lottery teams will continue to pick in inverse order of their regular-season record.

The drawing uses 14 ping-pong balls, numbered 1 through 14. For the drawing, all 14 balls are placed in the lottery machine. They are mixed for 20 seconds, and then the first ball is drawn. The remaining balls are mixed in the lottery machine for another 10 seconds, and then the second ball is drawn. There is another 10-second mix, and then the third ball is drawn. There is a final 10-second mix, and then the fourth ball is drawn. The team that has been assigned the combination of the four balls drawn from the machine will receive the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.”

Of course, there are some exceptions. Thanks to trades and such. However, Monday evening the league mixed away once the lottery commenced. In less than 5 minutes it was all over. Here is how the first 14 picks of the draft shall go:

2025 NBA Lottery

1. Dallas Mavericks

2. San Antonio Spurs

3. Philadelphia 76ers

4. Charlotte Hornets

5. Utah Jazz

6. Washington Wizards

7. New Orleans Pelicans

8. Brooklyn Nets

9. Toronto Raptors

10. Houston Rockets

11. Portland Trailblazers

12. Chicago Bulls

13. Atlanta Hawks

14. San Antonio Spurs

Of course, there is one name that is going to keep popping up over the next few days. And that is Cooper Flagg of Duke University. Flagg is believed to be a lock for this year’s number one overall pick.

Therefore, with the lottery now completed there is one sports educated guess basketball fans can make in regards to the NBA draft. With the Mavericks having the top pick; we could see Cooper Flagg in the Dallas organization. A huge pickup after the fan backlash resulting of the Luka Doncic trade.

Nevertheless, wherever Flagg lands it will be interesting to watch him develop and shape his professional career. We are sure he will work hard wherever he goes. However, if you want to see Cooper get officially drafted be sure to tune into Round 1 of the 2025 NBA Draft; which is set for Wednesday, June 25. It will air on both ABC and ESPN. Round 2 will take place a day later on Thursday, June 26.
