NBA Likely to Begin Investigation Into 76ers Regarding Joel Embiid
It’s only week one. We got Lebron and Bronny playing. Celtics raised banner 18. And now a possible investigation… the NBA is back! But what is going on in Philly? According to ESPN’s Sham Charania the lack of participation of Joel as the season commences is not sitting well with the league. And now the NBA is likely to begin an investigation into the 76ers regarding Joel Embiid. Crazy.
Embiid had missed plenty of games last season due to a knee injury. But had managed to participate in the 2024 Summer Olympics; giving hope that he was healing and would be ready for the season to begin. Yet, he is not, and the NBA now wants answers. Charania states,
“The NBA is likely to commence an investigation into the Philadelphia 76ers surrounding the player participation of All-NBA center Joel Embiid, sources told ESPN. More to come on NBA Today on ESPN right now.”
Furthermore, this update comes on the heels of another Philadelphia announcement. Just on Tuesday morning it had been revealed that neither Joel Embiid or Paul George would be making an appearance in the season opener. Charania had reported,
“76ers: Joel Embiid and Paul George are out for opener vs. Bucks on Wednesday. Embiid is progressing well and ramping up, scrimmaging this week. He will not play this week. George will be re-evaluated later in the week.”
Joel has in fact been working hard to get back to being strong and healthy on the court. He is wearing a knee brace but he has lost around 25 to 30 pounds. So then, there are a plethora of signs and indications that he hasn’t been playing around with his rehabbing.

Moreover, 76ers coach Nick Nurse spoke out regarding the Embiid situation during a presser. He mentioned that the organization’s plan of action is to maintain Joel’s health. Nurse says,
“The plan is why [Joel] is not playing, yes. He did not re-injure himself, but the plan is we don’t feel he’s quite ready, strong enough, light enough — whatever it is. They’ve determined he’s not quite ready to go.”
Philadelphia has not commented further. Yet, to the NBA Embiid’s not being able to start the season is raising some eyebrows. Our guess it’s due to the fact that Joel has a history of being prone to injuries. However, we are sure this is a matter the 76ers will clear up soon. As details continue to develop and unfold we will provide an update.
