National Hotdog Day: How Many Hotdogs Get Eaten Yearly at Ballparks
How do you like your dog? Mustard, relish, brisket, onions, French fries or piled high with some cheese? Well, you may be viewed as a traitor if you slather yours with ketchup; but something we all can agree on is that hotdogs are the PERFECT ballpark food. Therefore, for National Hotdog Day this year; we thought we would answer a sports provoking question. How many hotdogs get eaten each year at baseball games?
Well, the answer may shock you. So go ahead and take a wild or your best guess. Do you think it is 5 million? 10 million? Perhaps somewhere in the 15 million range?
Well, if you thought 15 million, you are close, but you still would need to go higher. Back in 2022, the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC) estimates MLB fans would consume 19.1 million hot dogs and nearly five million sausages at games. However, just like free agent baseball player contracts, the number just continues to rise.
Why is that? The answer is simple. More people are going to MLB games. When the thought had been that attendance was starting to decline. But that’s just not true. Back in May the MLB announced this:
Major League Baseball announced Wednesday that an average of 26,927 fans have attended games across the Majors in 2024, the largest figure through the end of April since 2017 and a 0.9% increase over ’23. Viewership is also up for national broadcasts on FOX, ESPN and MLB Network.

More people obviously means more money for things like merchandise and concessions. So with that being said, how many hotdogs are being consumed now in the year of our Lord, 2024? Once again the council provided another “delicious” update on this subject. They reveal,
According to the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council, 20 million hot dogs are consumed at MLB stadiums every season, which averages out to roughly 8,000 hot dogs per game.
So in conclusion… every baseball fan that attends a Major League Baseball game literally, “has that DAWG in them.” And the next time you are in your seat at a stadium enjoying your hotdog, cracker jacks, fries and a beer; remember you are among the millions eating this awesome game food annually.
