Naomi Osaka Beats Karolina Muchova in Quarter-Final Matchup at 2025 U.S. Open

What a match! Naomi Osaka beats Karolina Muchova in the quarter-final matchup at the 2025 U.S. Open. The former world #1 and two-time US Open champion Osaka defeated 2023 and 2024 semifinalist Karolina Muchova 6-4, 7-6(3) to reach another semifinal in NYC. This will be Naomi’s first Grand Slam semifinal since 2021 as well as her fifth Grand Slam singles semifinal.

After her big win against Muchova, Osaka jokingly discussed what it was like to lose to Karolina in the past and how she was still motivated to get back on the court. Naomi reveals,

“Last year she beat me here when I had one of my best outfits. [Naomi laughs]. So I was really upset. I’m really grateful to be here. Oh my god. Honestly I was sitting up there watching and hoping I could have the opportunity to play on this court again. It’s like my dream is coming true.”

Naomi Osaka was also asked how every time she’s played in a quarterfinal of a major; she has gone on to win that major; therefore, why does she feel she is at her best at this stage? Why does she seem to turn it on at this level of competition? Osaka states,

“I can’t really answer you because it’s been a while since I’ve been in this position. You play the best players in the world towards the end of a slam. We’re all hoping to achieve the same thing. It’s kind of like boxing, but with a tennis ball.

It means so much. I’m actually surprised I’m not crying. There’s been so much work you guys haven’t seen. I’m really grateful to my team and happy to be healthy.”

Wonderful sentiments. So then, what’s next for Naomi? Who will she face in the semifinal? Well, Naomi Osaka and Amanda Anisimova will face off and battle. Amanda leads the head to head 2-0, which includes a win on hard courts in 2022.

Furthermore, it will also be their third time meeting, but first since 2022. However, only one will be able to take another step towards the final. But who? Well, you will just have to tune in to see which one of these amazing athletes shall emerge as the victor.

Furthermore, Naomi Osaka will be back to #14 in the world when the new rankings come out. And she could go even higher. Therefore, it looks as though that Osaka is coming back stronger than ever; after her mental health break. In fact, among players who started their career in the Open Era, Naomi Osaka has become the third player to win each of her first five Women’s Singles QFs at Grand Slams after Chris Evert and Aryna Sabalenka. Amazing.
