Multiple Golden Glove and World Series Winner Jason Heyward Announced His MLB Retirement

He spent a varied and exciting 16 years in the professional baseball league. During that time, he made impacts on various teams bringing good times wherever he went. But it’s the end of an era for a man who spent his career building up different organizations. However, multiple Golden Glove and World Series winner Jason Heyward announce his MLB retirement today. Heyward won the Golden Glove five times in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016. 2017. And he became a World Series winner with the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He, Dexter Fowler, Addison Russell and Carl Edwards Jr. became the first African Americans to play for the Cubs in a World Series Game.

He spent some of his best baseball years in Chicago despite his first year there in 2016 being somewhat rough. Nevertheless, he participated in helping the franchise win its first World Series championship in 108 years. Breaking what everyone called the Curse. Besides that, accomplishment, Heyward became the first position player in Major League Baseball history to win three straight Gold Glove Awards with three different teams (Braves, Cardinals, and Cubs).

Regarding his retirement Heyward made the following statement:

“I look forward to being a potential mentor to any of the young players coming up, anybody that is in the game right now. I feel like the game’s in good hands in that sense, and I look forward to being a fan and seeing what other ways I can give back,” Heyward said. “Thank you to everybody that’s been there to support: the fans, teammates, coaches, staff, ownership groups, everyone and so on. Thank you for allowing me to live out my dream.”

Heyward, a longtime outfielder, was also an All-Star player. He produced a stellar 16-year career in MLB.

Heyward wraps up his career with the San Diego Padres with whom he had signed a one-year, $1 million contract on Feb. 11, 2025. He made 34 appearances and batted .176/.223/.271 with two home runs and 12 RBI. But of course, he spent time with other teams including the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros.

However, now Heyward is appreciative of having lived his dream and wants to give back to the game. And it’s great that he’s looking to become a potential mentor to any of the young players coming up. But for now, he can go enjoy being a husband and dad at 36 years old.
