Multiple Athletes Selected For Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People
The iconic magazine releases an annual list of people they find interesting or noteworthy. It’s generally composed of politicians, Hollywood big-wigs, and of course musical talent. But also people in sports can be included in the selections and this year they are well-represented. In fact, multiple athletes were selected for Time Magazine’s 100 World’s Most Influential People. One of the cover subjects is former tennis great Serena Williams. This year marks the third time that she has made the annual list.
The other athletes joining Williams on the list are:
- Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts
- WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier
- Simone Biles the most successful Olympic gymnast
- Léon Marchand, the French swimmer who dominated at the Paris Olympics
We all know about Serena’s prowess on the tennis court, but her post-retirement life is quite amazing. Here’s a quote from Time regarding her activities:
“Serena Williams is still at the top of her game. For TIME100, she discusses joining the Toronto Tempo ownership group, investing in over 120 companies, joining Kendrick Lamar onstage at the Super Bowl, and still finding the time to be Olympia’s room mom.” With all of that going on, it’s no wonder she made the list.

And then we have Super Bowl LIX winning quarterback Jalen Hurts. He and his Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs the second time around in the big game. Baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter shared his thoughts on Hurts:
“We connected shortly after (the Super Bowl), and the only thing he asked about was insight on going back and winning again,” Jeter wrote. “Sometimes people win, then exhale. Jalen is not exhaling. He’s embracing the next challenge. Win or lose, Jalen’s resilience and determination offer all of us something to admire.” Hurts is clearly motivated to continue his winning ways.
And of course we can’t overlook our lovely WNBA ladies, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Colliers. In addition, to the roles they play in the WNBA, they also had the tenacity to create a new league, Unrivaled. The 3-on-3 league provides a way for the players to stay in the United States and earn money. As opposed to having to go to other countries and play in their leagues to make money during the WNBA offseason.
Simone Biles really needs no introduction. With her high-flying aerials and acrobatics she has become a household name. Last year at the 2024 Paris Olympics she became the most successful gymnast in Olympic history. She was also named the 2024 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year. She brought mental health awareness to the fore in 2021 when she took a break from the sport. But made a triumphant return in 2024 winning gold at the Olympics. We can hardly wait to see what she does next.
