Monday's NFC Wild-Card Game Between LA Rams and Vikings Has Been Moved

Monday’s NFC Wild-Card Game Between LA Rams and Vikings Has Been Moved

Several fires have sprung up across the Los Angeles region. Causing thousands to flee and evacuate for safety and for several sporting events to be canceled (LA Kings and Los Angeles Lakers). The lack of containment in Palisades as well as the Pasadena area has led to the NFL and a LA-based football team to make the decision to move venues. On Thursday evening, it was officially announced that Monday’s NFC Wild-Card game between the LA Rams and the Vikings has been moved.

Earlier in the day it seemed as though the Rams and Minnesota were prepared to carry on business as usual. However, the fatal fire outbreaks only continued as the day progressed. With a new blaze springing up in the Woodland Hills/Calabasas area. Thus, pushing the National Football League and the Los Angeles franchise to make a much different call.

The game, which was to be played at the beginning of next week is being relocated to a completely different state. The matchup was to be played at SoFi Stadium in L.A., in the Inglewood vicinity. But now it will be at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. A move that was made with public safety in mind, as per the league.

The decision was made in consultation with public officials, the participating clubs and the NFLPA,” the players union statement said.

The Los Angeles Rams also provided an updated explanation about this situation. The organization reveals,

“In the interest of public safety, Monday’s Vikings-Rams Wild Card game has been moved from SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, CA to State Farm Stadium, the home of the Arizona Cardinals, the NFL announced today.

The decision was made in consultation with public officials, the participating clubs and the NFLPA.
The game will be televised on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes at its scheduled 5:00 p.m. pacific time (PT).

Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. PT Friday morning for Rams Season Ticket Members and Noon PT to the general public. Ticket holders for the game at SoFi Stadium will receive either a refund or a credit towards their season tickets next season. More information on ticket sales will be provided as soon as possible.”

So then, the NFL playoffs will be able to play on as scheduled. However, our thoughts are still with those affected by the massive Los Angeles fires. Currently, there are 179,000 under evacuation orders.

And the Palisades Fire has spread almost 27 square miles and destroyed thousands of structures. Making it the most destructive ever in Los Angeles. Dry conditions and powerful winds sparked at least five fires. Thus, causing unprecedented scenes in areas not known for fires. Lastly, these wildfires burning out of control in the greater Los Angeles territory have killed at least six people; and forced nearly 180,000 more from their homes. Authorities said the total number of deaths is still unknown.
