Monday Night Football Doubleheader – With Surprise Endings
I’m thinking it wasn’t the best idea. But ABC and ESPN simultaneously aired the Monday Night Football Doubleheader with surprise endings. Tennessee was at Miami and Green Bay was at New York. Not a lot of action took place in the first quarter of either game.
Miami, had gotten down inside the five yard line and was ready to score. However, the regular starting center was out due to an injury suffered during the drive. The backup center hiked the ball to Tua but it was fumbled and the Titans recovered. However, Titans QB Levis then threw a pass right at a Dolphins defender who ran it in for a touchdown.
It was these type of errors that happened throughout both games. There were too many mental mistakes and turnovers that were inexcusable. Green Bay QB Jordan Love didn’t have his usual pinpoint accuracy with his throws. Tonight he couldn’t connect with his receivers, overthrowing them too often.
The same could be said for Miami QB Tua Tagovailoa. He didn’t seem to be in his usual rhythm. But the Titans were double covering his top receivers. In addition, Tyreek Hill left the game due to injury in the first quarter. But he did return much later in the game. Miami didn’t play up to the level they have shown they are capable of playing.
On the other hand, Tommy DeVito and the New York Giants played fairly well. Although they had a fumble that led to a Green Bay touchdown. The touchdown gave Green Bay the lead. But they allowed the Giants to go 57 yards and kick the winning field goal.
Each team had missed a field goal so it was anyone’s game. In the end, it was the turnovers that sealed Green Bay’s fate. The Giants won 22-24.

In the fourth quarter the Titans finally started using DeAndre Hopkins and the Titans. And they scored two touchdowns with less than five minutes on the clock. One drive took 1:54 and the other was :26. Everyone thought they scored too quickly on the second touchdown, leaving 1:53 for the Dolphins.
The Dolphins converted one first down, but couldn’t convert on 4th & 2 as Tua was sacked. They turned the ball over on downs and the Titans won 28-27.
So the teams that were the favorites ended up losing. Surprise endings to both games that started off slowly. In my opinion Monday Night doubleheaders aren’t good for the teams or the fans. And definitely not being aired at the same time. But what do I know?
