Monday Night Doubleheader Concluded NFL Week 3

I don’t know about you but I’m not a fan of having two NFL games on Monday night. Having to divide my attention between the two is kind of annoying. And yet that’s what we had today with the Jacksonville Jaguars @ Buffalo Bills and Washington Commanders @ Cincinnati Bengals. Nevertheless, the Monday night doubleheader concluded NFL Week 3. And for some reason, the NFL will be doing another doubleheader next week.

Anyway, kicking things off at 7:30 ET were the Jaguars and Bills. The Bills got the ball first and went down the field with little resistance from the Jaguars. They scored a touchdown but the extra point was missed. The Jaguars went three and out on their first possession. Which was unfortunate because the Bills scored again on their next drive and this time the extra point was good. Really the Bills just kept scoring throughout the half and the Jaguars’ defense was powerless to stop them. They tried playing man coverage but Josh Allen made them pay for it. However, zone didn’t work either as the Bills scored five touchdowns on five possessions to five different receivers.

Trevor Lawrence and his receivers were out of sync. Either Lawrence wasn’t getting the ball to them or they were dropping passes. They looked frazzled the entire first half and things didn’t improve in the second half. The game was completely out of control so the Jaguars sent in Mac Jones to replace Lawrence about midway through the fourth quarter. Jones was sacked and fumbled the ball which Buffalo recovered and later scored another touchdown. The nightmare finally came to an end with the Bills beating down the Jaguars 10-47. One last note, safety Damar Hamlin got his first career interception at home. Nice!

The game between the Commanders and Bengals was much more exciting. Both quarterbacks played so well and led their teams to multiple scoring drives. It was the first NFL game since 1940 with no turnovers or punts. The defenses for each team did not fare as well as the offenses. Both of them were missing tackles, not filling gaps, and committing pass interference penalties. But Jayden Daniels was the real story of the game.

His poise and confidence inspired his teammates and they played hard for him. When it looked like the Bengals were making a serious comeback, Daniels led his team down the field for a must have touchdown. Just look at this insane throw to Terry McLaurin. Daniel ended the game with a passer rating of 91.3% a new NFL record for a rookie quarterback. He completed 21-of-23 pass attempts during the 38–33 win. Washington is now 2-1 while Cincinnati drops to 0-3.
