MLBPAA Announced The Heart And Hustle Award Winners For 2025
There’s nothing better than being recognized by your fellow peers and associates. But to be recognized by those who have come before you is an even better accolade to receive. This kind of recognition has been happening in the MLB for twenty years now by the Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA). Today the MLBPAA announced the Heart and Hustle Award Winners for 2025. Each team gets to choose a winner for their organization.
Nevertheless, the MLBPAA provides more background information on their website which states:
Created by the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association in 2005, the Heart & Hustle Award is voted on by Alumni and active Major League players and is presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.
The MLBPAA formed 30 committees, comprised of Alumni players with established relationships to each team. One player from each major league team is chosen by the committees based on the passion, desire, and work ethic demonstrated both on and off the field. As the season draws to a close, fans, all Alumni and active players will vote to select the final winner from the 30 team winners.
However, it’s also the only award voted on by former players, as each team’s winner is chosen by a committee of alumni. The overall winner will be chosen from the pool of team winners by a combination of alumni and fan votes.
The list of past award winners is listed below as provided by mlb.com:
Previous league-wide winners include David Eckstein (2005), Craig Biggio (2006, 2007), Grady Sizemore (2008), Albert Pujols (2009), Roy Halladay (2010), Torii Hunter (2011), Mike Trout (2012), Dustin Pedroia (2013), Josh Harrison (2014), Anthony Rizzo (2015), Todd Frazier (2016), Brett Gardner (2017), Mookie Betts (2018), Howie Kendrick (2019), Ozzie Albies (2021), Paul Goldschmidt (2022), Marcus Semien (2023) and Bobby Witt Jr. (2024).
