MLB The Show 24 Printed History The Negro Leagues Edition
It was a long wait for us all (one week lol). However, we have finally made it to the big reveal! The Show’s special collector’s cover is… MLB The Show 24 Printed History The Negro Leagues Edition. A nice throwback to the days of the great Satchel Paige, Willie Mays, Jackie Robinson, Smokey Joe Williams, Rube Foster, Hank Aaron; among many others.
Nonetheless, we love the packaging for this edition. Retro, vintage vibes. Oozing with ballpark appeal, like if a paper boy hand delivered you your copy of the game.
Yes, Newspapers are so 1900s. However, as sports fans we have to remember that’s how people used to consume sports content. Including any news on stats, standings or favorite baseball players.
Therefore, we think it’s great that this aspect is being included and woven nicely within The Show. The game’s official website provided a nice breakdown about this collector’s edition. They state,
“Before radios, television sets and the internet, physical newspapers were the primary source of news and information. Black Newspapers and the Black press not only documented Negro Leagues history, in addition the newspapers were also a source of pride in the black community. (You can learn more here!)
Without these newspapers and the pioneering baseball writers, the Negro Leagues wouldn’t have survived. They preserved this often overlooked chapter of American and baseball history. This year’s collector’s edition theme is a tribute to those who helped give a voice to the voiceless.
We are also excited to announce our continued partnership with The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City. MLB® The Show™ will donate $1 for every Negro Leagues Edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, and MVP edition sold in the US until 12/31/24 to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Donations will help the Museum continue their work which is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of African American baseball and its impact on the social advancement of America. MLB The Show 24 Printed History The Negro Leagues Edition
That’s awesome. The Negro Leagues ran for several decades and information on guys that played; is still being discovered and catalogued. Nevertheless, during that era, some crazy good players were discovered. For instance, MLB.com reveals,
“While the Negro Leagues had talent comparable to the American and National Leagues, the differences between the two environments are substantial. The Negro Leagues had more variation in terms of the quality of play from league to league or team to team.
A certain Angels sensation named Shohei Ohtani has often been billed as the first two-way star since Babe Ruth. But that’s not true. The Negro Leagues had tons of two-way talents, including three in the Hall of Fame — Bullet Rogan, Martín Dihigo and Leon Day.”
Now that’s wild. And fortunate for us gamers we get to play with these legends! Here’s what’s all included according to TheShow.com:
