MLB Owners Approve Dave Rubenstein Purchase of Baltimore Orioles

It is a new era! The Orioles are getting a new ownership group with big plans of helping to bring Baltimore another baseball championship. Yes, after some diminutive deliberation, MLB owners approve the Dave Rubenstein purchase of Baltimore Orioles in an unanimous vote.

The MLB released a statement about the purchase. The statement also includes some thoughts from MLB commissioner, Rob Manfred. Nonetheless, it states,

“Major League Baseball announced today that the owners of the Major League Clubs have unanimously approved the new ownership group of the Baltimore Orioles led by incoming control person David Rubenstein. The vote was conducted today during a conference call. The closing of the sale is expected to occur later today.

Commissioner of Baseball Robert D. Manfred, Jr. said: “On behalf of Major League Baseball, I thank the Angelos family for their many years of service to the game and the communities of Baltimore.

Peter Angelos loved Baseball, loved Baltimore and was an important part of MLB for more than three decades.

“I congratulate David Rubenstein on receiving approval from the Major League Clubs as the new control person of the Orioles. As a Baltimore native and a lifelong fan of the team, David is uniquely suited to lead the Orioles moving forward.

We welcome David and his partners as the new stewards of the franchise.”

Some other details about new ownership; is that it will include some former athletes. Which will no doubt help the franchise to also focus on the players and what they may need for even greater success and better performance. Nevertheless, regarding this aspect ESPN reports,

“Cal Ripken Jr. and Grant Hill are part of the investor group that has agreed to buy the Baltimore Orioles, and so are former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke. The group is headed by Baltimore native David Rubenstein, co-founder of the Carlyle Group.”

Nice. However, if you are still wondering who is apart of the new ownership group taking over the Orioles as a whole. Jacob Calvin Meyers, a Baltimore Orioles reporter for the The Baltimore Sun provided a list of every individual involved. Meyers reveals,

“The Orioles’ new ownership group: David Rubenstein Michael Arougheti Mitchell Goldstein Michael Smith Cal Ripken Jr. Michele Kang Kurt Schmoke Grant Hill Mike Bloomberg Bill Miller Rick Rieder Greg Baroni Stan, Allison and Albert Chen Kate Ramsdell Lauren Tabak Fass Jason Reese.”

Very good. This is a fresh new start for the Orioles fandom. Something that have been wanting for some time. Therefore, we wish this new ownership group the best in their endeavors; and hope Orioles fans’ dreams are realized with this new group behind the ball club; and that they have a great 2024 season.
