Minnesota Vikings Have Relieved General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah of His Duties
Well color us surprised at this latest development. At a time when interviews are being conducted for head coaches, there hasn’t been a whole lot going on with the general managers. Even if we think some of them need to go. But at least one team felt that way about their general manager. Therefore, the Minnesota Vikings have relieved general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah of his duties. Today the team made the announcement and put out a statement regarding the general manager:
Following our annual end-of-season organizational meetings over the last several weeks and after careful consideration, we have decided it is in the best interest of the team to move forward with new leadership of our football operations. These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for Kwesi’s contributions and commitment to the organization over the past four years and wish him and his family the best in the future.
Effective immediately, Executive Vice President of Football Operations Rob Brzezinski will lead our operations through the 2026 NFL Draft. Rob brings tremendous credibility and experience, understands our roster and has the ability to build consensus and rely on the expertise of our personnel and coaches. After the draft, we intend to conduct a thorough search to identify our next general manager. Building a team that can contend for championships drives us every day, and we look forward to bringing our fans the success they so deserve. – Mark & Zygi Wilf
The firing comes less than 24 hours after Kwesi admitted his mistake in letting Sam Darnold go. Darnold had been with the Vikings in 2024 and had a remarkable season. He spent 2025 with the Seattle Seahawks and now that team will be competing for the Lombardi trophy this February.
Minnesota Vikings Have Relieved General Manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah of His Duties
Interestingly, ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter posted the following: “Vikings owner/president Mark Wilf said he expects to conduct “a thorough search” for a new general manager after the draft.” It would seem that a team would want a general manager in place prior to the draft. But they have placed their trust in football executive Rob Brzezinski to lead the way.
Commenting on the timing of the firing ESPN Draft Analyst Field Yates also posted on x.com(formerly twitter): “The timing of this is a major surprise. Adofo-Mensah spent the week at the Senior Bowl. He was extended just last offseason. A unique situation to say the least.”
Despite the Vikings going with unproven quarterback J.J. McCarthy in his second year who battled injuries and inconsistencies that doesn’t seem like enough to fire a general manager. After all, Darnold had struggled as a quarterback prior to landing in Minnesota. So we’ll see where the Vikings go from here.
