Minnesota Vikings—First NFL Team to Play Back-to-Back International Games in Different Countries

The NFL continues to expand its international influence and presence. This upcoming season they will have one franchise do something that has never occurred during the entire existence of the league. On Tuesday morning it was announced that the Minnesota Vikings will be the first NFL team to play back-to-back international games in different countries.

Yes, the Vikings will spend two games abroad. They will do this during consecutive weeks near the beginning of the season. The 2025-2026 season will commence on September 4, 2025, with the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the Dallas Cowboys in the Kickoff Game. And towards the end of the month of September and on into the beginning of October; the Vikings will be playing overseas.

Minnesota is thrilled to have this opportunity. Via social media the football organization announced, “Dublin then London! The Vikings will become the first NFL team to play in back-to-back international games in different countries in 2025.”

ESPN’s Adam Schefter also confirmed and added additional details regarding the Vikings playing two games in Europe. Schefter mentions,

Minnesota will become the first NFL team to play in back-to-back international games in different countries, facing the Steelers in the first-ever regular-season NFL game in Dublin, Ireland, on Sunday, Sept. 28. The Vikings then will travel to London, England, to play the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Oct. 5.”

Minnesota Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf also made statement about his team playing in Dublin. Especially, when it comes to the kind of impact he believes this opportunity will have on a global scale. Wilf states,

“Playing in Ireland’s first-ever NFL game is an opportunity to introduce new fans to the Minnesota Vikings and help the league continue to make the game of football more accessible globally. To do so against a storied franchise like the Pittsburgh Steelers adds a unique challenge that makes this even more special. We are honored to be selected for this historic game and will be anxious to see what promises to be an electric game day environment in Croke Park.”

Indeed, these will be great games to watch. Allowing fans to enjoy an international flair. But there are other great matchups that will go down as well. So then, keep an eye out on May 14, when the NFL season schedule will be fully released.
