Minnesota Vikings Comeback For The Win Against The Chicago Bears Monday Night

The NFC North wrapped up the Week 1 inauguration of the 2025 NFL season. Green Bay took care of the Detroit Lions with a decisive 27-13 victory. Tonight it was time to see how the other two division rivals would fare. Chicago’s defense forced a three and out against Minnesota in their opening drive. Whereas Chicago’s offense moved the ball downfield using five different receivers and Caleb Williams ran in for a nine-yard touchdown. But still the Minnesota Vikings were able to comeback for the win against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night.

Williams also completed 10 straight passes before he threw his first incompletion. The Chicago offense looked much more efficient this season than they have in the past. Scoring a touchdown on their opening drive was something that never happened even once last season. Clearly hiring former Detroit Lions’ offensive coordinator Ben Johnson is paying dividends already. However, the Vikings offense was not looking like the well-oiled machine we became accustomed to last season.

After punting twice the Vikings finally got on the scoreboard at the beginning of the second quarter with a 31-yard field goal. The Vikings defense came close to sacking Williams but the elusive quarterback managed to slip away from the tackle and picked up a chunk of yards. Later the Bears went for a 4th & 3 but the pass fell incomplete and they turned the ball over on downs. However, the Vikings couldn’t take advantage and had to punt. That was followed by the Bears punting and then Minnesota had to punt again, after that the Bears kicked a 42-yard field goal.

With 28 seconds left in the half quarterback J.J. McCarthy hit Jalen Nailor with a deep 25-yard pass. However, Nailor wasn’t able to get out of bounds so the Vikings had to use their last time out to stop the clock. Kicker Will Reicher then came on and banged through a 59-yard field goal. Bears had the 10-6 lead at halftime.

It looked like it would be more Chicago dominance in the second half after J.J. McCarthy threw a 74-yard pick-6 on their opening drive. But then the Vikings flipped the script on the Bears and took control of the game. They got their running game going with Jordan Mason and Aaron Jones, Sr. That seemed to take some pressure off McCarthy who started making quick, efficient throws. However, the fireworks really got going in the fourth quarter when the Vikings scored a touchdown on three possessions in a row.

The debut for McCarthy looked like it was going to be a stinker but he turned things around. Now he has won his first NFL game after sitting out last season due to a knee injury. But he had help from his friends like Justin Jefferson who caught a crucial 13-yard touchdown. And from native son Adam Thielen who converted a 2-pt. conversion after Jones caught the 27-yard touchdown pass. And McCarthy himself faked a handoff and ran the ball in for a 14-yard touchdown. So the Vikings held off the Bears and came away with the 27-24 victory.
