Milwaukee Bucks Win 2024 NBA Cup And Giannis Antetokounmpo Named MVP
They stole their Thunder. The Bucks went on a rampage the entire tournament and now stand proud as the second team to hoist the in-season championship trophy. On Tuesday evening, the Milwaukee Bucks won the 2024 NBA Cup and superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is named the tournament’s MVP.
How did the basketball franchise get it done? Well for thing, Antetokounmpo and Lillard put on a SHOW. The Cup’s MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points with 19 rebounds and 10 assists, while his teammate Damian Lillard added 23 points. Additionally, the Bucks utilized the deadly 3-pointer in order to finish defeating their opponent. Milwaukee connected on 17 3-pointers on the way to beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 97-81 in the NBA Cup title game on Tuesday night.
Nevertheless, despite their stellar performances, Lillard and Antetokounmpo insisted after the game that it was a team effort. Since as we all know, one man (or two) does not win championships. It takes everyone putting in effort; whether great or small. Regarding this particular aspect, Damien Lillard told the press,
“Everybody did their job. We defended. We played well from the start of the game all the way through the finish. I think it just showed what we’ve been building. I think it all came out in our biggest game to this point.”
To go along with Damien, Brook Lopez and Gary Trent Jr. also each scored 13 for the Bucks. Showing that teamwork definitely makes the dream work. Furthermore, the Bucks really flexed their dominance in the second half of the matchup. A 19-5 Milwaukee run in the second half turned what was a five-point game into a 19-point game early in the fourth, and the Bucks kept control the rest of the way.
Milwaukee Bucks Win 2024 NBA Cup And Giannis Antetokounmpo Named MVP
Yet, the undisputed king of night was Giannis Antetokounmpo. Actually, the entire NBA Cup he proved why he deserved MVP accolades. Antetokounmpo steered the Bucks to an impressive 7-0 mark in Group and Knockout Round games, then capped it Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena with a thorough 97-81 thumping of the tenacious Oklahoma City Thunder.
While Giannis was happy to get the win, he humbly accepted being named the MVP. Getting such a honored distinction was not his priority or focus. Giannis explains,
“When you approach a game like this, you’re not thinking about MVPs. You’re thinking about trying to win the game. And sometimes when you try to do whatever it takes, you put yourself in position to be successful and you’re able to get a trophy like that.
I don’t know why I got the MVP. I’m happy that I got it. I don’t take it for granted. I’m most happy we got to win the game. Some of my teammates got life-changing money.
We had this joke within the team about Liam, that I promised him from the first Cup game, I said ‘We’re going to go all the way and we’re going to get you a house in Iowa.’ So after every game, I’m like, ‘Hey, one step closer to your house in Iowa.’
After the game, I went to the locker room and I saw smiles on their faces.”
Obviously, it meant a lot to Antetokounmpo to get the win for the team’s city and fans; as well as for his teammates. Mission accomplished. So then, congratulations to the Bucks and now they get to enjoy the spoils. Members of the winning team each got approximately $514,000 for the title game.
