Milwaukee Bucks Still Making Moves Giving Extension To Shooting Guard A.J. Green

It was only a couple days ago that the Bucks helped to create some NBA history by signing three biological brothers to their roster at the same time. But the NBA franchise wasn’t finished. Yesterday it became known that the Milwaukee Bucks were still making moves by giving an extension to shooting guard A.J. Green. More details about the extension were provided on x.com by ESPN Insider Shams Charania. He posted:

“Milwaukee Bucks guard AJ Green has agreed to a four-year, $45 million fully guaranteed contract extension with the franchise, Matt Bollero of ProMondo Sports tells ESPN. Tremendous success story for the Bucks: an Iowa native who went from undrafted in 2022 to making NBA and $45M.”

“Green is now under contract through the 2029-30 season in Milwaukee as the Bucks keep him from entering free agency next summer. The 6-foot-4 guard is one of the elite shooters in the league, shooting 42.7% from 3-point range and 44.9% on catch-and-shoot 3s last season.”

Although he went undrafted in 2022, Green signed a two-way contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. And he joined their 2022 NBA Summer League roster. On July 7, 2023, Green signed a standard contract with the Bucks for three years and $6.3 million, including $1.9 million guaranteed at signing. The Iowa native spent his college career at Northern Iowa where his father was a member of the coaching staff.

Last season Green had a breakout season scoring 541 points as compared to the 406 points scored in his first two NBA seasons. He averaged 7.4 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 22.7 minutes in 73 games while shooting 42.7% from 3-point range. His 155 3-point baskets ranked third on the team. Through plenty of hard work and dedication, Green has become an elite shooter in the league. He has shot at least 40% on 3-pointers in all three seasons of his NBA career.

As indicated by the extension the 26-year old Green has emerged as the full-time starter for head coach Doc Rivers. It’s a good deal for both parties as Green gets financial security and the Bucks get to lock in a starter and elite shooter. And as a bonus he has great chemistry on screens with Bucks’ superstar  Giannis Antetokounmpo. And he’s pretty good at holding his own on defense. So big congrats to A.J. Green on getting his new extension! The future looks very bright for him.

In addition to Green’s extension, Alex Antetokounmpo was signed to a two-way contract,  the Bucks also signed Johnny Davis and Jeremiah Tilmon to Exhibit 10 contracts and waived Chris Livingston.
