Michigan Wolverines Add Bryce Underwood the Top-Ranked Football Recruit to Roster Next Season

Michigan Wolverines Add Bryce Underwood the Top-Ranked Football Recruit to Roster Next Season

The Wolverines are having a very happy FLIPmas and it is not even December yet. There had been some rumblings of whether or not this particular scenario could become a reality; however, now no one has to wonder anymore. On Thursday, it was announced that the Michigan Wolverines are adding Bryce Underwood the top-ranked football recruit to their roster next season. The 6’4 205 pound prospect from Belleville, MI held additional offers from Oregon, Ohio State, Georgia and 35+ others. Bryce is the #1 ranked recruit nationally via On3, ESPN as well as 247sports.

This is a big deal for Michigan. A school that just won a national championship title (2023). However, they wish to keep that level of excellence going and to make that happen you need top talent. And the Wolverines just got themselves a really good one. Also, it is so necessary because in 2024 the school isn’t doing so hot, sitting with a 5-5 record; having lost QB JJ McCarthy (drafted to the Minnesota Vikings). Michigan needed help at quarterback and they are going to get it.

Sports broadcasting giant ESPN broke the news after confirming with several sources. ESPN reveals,

“Breaking: Bryce Underwood, ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2025, is flipping his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines, he told school officials today.”

Wild. Nevertheless, Adam Schefter also adds some additional intel as well as another thought about this situation. Schefter explains,

“Breaking: Bryce Underwood, ESPN’s No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2025, is flipping his commitment to the Michigan Wolverines, he told school officials today.

It’s a big day for University of Michigan football, HC Sherrone Moore and Champions Circle (official partner of Michigan Athletics/the NIL collective supporting all student athletes); as they land the highest-rated recruit in school history.”

Schefter mentioning Champions Circle is important. Since the next logical question is how much was Underwood offered? The answer came via On3 who confirmed that Bryce was “lured” with a record-setting NIL package. We won’t leave you in suspense… it’s rumored Michigan offered Underwood a 4-year, $10.5M NIL deal in an attempt to flip his LSU commitment. Reports of this swirled around for the past two weeks.

Moreover, about a week ago Bryce Underwood threw the masses off by posting an interesting photo to social media platform, Instagram. Via Instagram stories Underwood released a graphic that at the time seemed to indicate that he might deny Michigan’s humongous offer. But flash forward to this week and it’s a much different story. Bryce is heading for Michigan. Underwood will be the first No.1 recruit to commit to Michigan since Rashan Gary in 2016.
