Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke Set to Transfer to Wisconsin

Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke Set to Transfer to Wisconsin

They finally have their guy! College football erupts with the news that former Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke is set to transfer to Wisconsin. A move that could prove to work very well for the young man.

Tyler’s college play has been a rollercoaster. Major high lows. Unfortunate lows.

The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman explains it well,

“Miami QB Tyler Van Dyke commits to Wisconsin. The 6-4, 225 pounder threw 54 TDs & 23 INTs at UM. ‘He’s got a lot of arm talent. I think he played hurt this year and he was wildly inconsistent. Maybe he just needs a refresh.’”

Nevertheless, the Badgers wanted Van Dyke as part of their program from the very beginning. Regarding this, Benjamin Worgull, a senior writer covering Wisconsin athletics since 2004 reports,

“Wisconsin has added a veteran arm to the quarterback room for a second straight season, as former Miami three-year starter Tyler Van Dyke commits to the Badgers.

Wisconsin wanted Tyler Van Dyke out of high school when he was rated the country’s 204th best prospect.

Now, after a season where he threw for 2,703 yards, 19 TDs and a 65.8 completion percentage, the Badgers have their guy with two years remaining and trending upward.”

Speaking of trending upwards… can Tyler Van Dyke actually begin to do so? Some signs point to yes. Tyler is someone many felt was NFL worthy, ready and bound. Moreover, the Junior threw for 2,703 yards, 19 TDs and a 65.8 completion percentage this season. Additionally, Van Dyke possesses 7,500 career passing yards and 56 total touchdowns.

The issue? Well, he may have led the ACC in completion percentage last season at 65.8%; however, his 12 interceptions were the eighth-most in FBS. A lot of turnovers.

Nonetheless, Tyler is chock full of experience. Experience that is not only excellent for the Badgers; but for Van Dyke’s further development as well. Badgers’ writer Jake Maier agrees, he states,

“Tyler Van Dyke’s experience will be valuable for the Badgers as they navigate a tough 2024 season.

With matchups against Alabama, USC, Penn State, and Oregon coming up, bringing in a QB with 32 total games of experience with 28 starts against solid completion is a plus.”

So Tyler Van Dyke is starting a fresh new chapter. With Wisconsin he will fit into a style of offense that made him rookie of the year in the ACC (2021). This transfer could get him back to “form” and back to being a guy many felt would one day be a high draft pick. Time shall tell, but best wishes to Tyler with the Badgers.
