Miami Heat Unveiled Dwyane Wade Statue

Miami Heat Unveiled Dwyane Wade Statue

What in the Laurence Fishburne? Now, while we have all been waiting for about a year to see how one of Miami’s greatest would forever be immortalized in stone. Nothing, and we mean NOTHING could prepare any of us for what was going to be revealed. On Sunday, the Miami Heat unveiled the long-awaited Dwyane Wade statue sending social media into hysteria.

Some online thought it looked like actor Gary Sinise. Others joked that the monument must be from Temu. But what thing we all can agree on is that the resemblance could have been way better.

However, roasting aside, it is still wonderful to see a guy and former NBA player like Wade get his flowers. His amazing career reads like a storybook with: 3x NBA Championships ; a 13x NBA All-Star ; 2006 NBA Finals MVP ; 2x All-NBA First Team ; and being a 2008 Olympic Gold medalist. Certainly an accomplished gentleman worthy of a statue.

Longtime Miami Heat beat writer Ira Winderman summed up the the eventful unveiling. He states,

“If there was any doubt, there can be none now: The Miami Heat’s arena is Dwyane Wade’s house. Amid a Sunday celebration of the most iconic figure in the franchise’s 37 seasons, the Heat unveiled on the front steps of Kaseya Center a bronze statue of Wade in his iconic “This is my house!” pose.”

The statue was designed by Timeless Creations’ Omri Amrany and Oscar León. And will sit prominently outside the front doors of the Kaseya Center. Furthermore, while fans may not have liked the quality of the statue. Wade’s reaction was much different than most. Initially he breaks the ice jokingly saying, “That’s crazy. I can’t believe that. Who’s that guy?”

But he goes on to show how appreciative he is of this honor. He continues,

“This is crazy. I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast, and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. … I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.

I didn’t play for this. I didn’t pick up the basketball for this. I picked up the basketball to change my family’s life.

[Looking at the statue]… “That’s beautiful. I think it’s one of the best statues that’s been created because of what it represents for us and for me.

I believe I gave you guys something set in stone to hold on to. This is my house. I’m out.”

Nice speech. Yes, when you think of the Heat, it’s hard not to think of Wade. Basketball fans will always be grateful for the amazing memories he blessed us with and glad to see him get the recognition and esteem he deserves.
