Miami Dolphins Silenced the Critics And Other NFL Notes

Despite their winning record, the Dolphins credibility was questioned. But on Sunday afternoon the Miami Dolphins silenced the critics. We’ll talk about that and other NFL notes. But first let’s talk about the Jaguars losing their fourth game in a row. Their first possession ended in an interception, followed by a missed field goal, and another interception.

To make matters worse, starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence suffered a shoulder injury late in the third quarter. Further evaluation will determine the extent of the injury. Nevertheless, the Jaguars only mustered 12 points. In contrast, Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers are having a run of success. It showed in their 12-30 win over the Jaguars.

Arizona was at Chicago and was blown away in the windy city. The Bears came out swinging and didn’t let up. Their run game racked up 250 yards rushing. Arizona only had 306 yards total and one touchdown. That wasn’t enough to compete with the Bears. Chicago won the game 16-27.

Getting back to the Dallas Miami game. Many said that the Dolphins needed to beat playoff caliber teams to validate their standing. Today, both teams fought hard and beat each other up pretty good. Dallas scored a touchdown first but Miami came back with two field goals and a touchdown by halftime.

The teams were so evenly matched in every category that it was anyone’s game. Dallas took the lead with a 19 play drive that ended with a touchdown hauled in by Brandin Cooks. Yet they left about 3:30 on the clock in the fourth quarter. And Miami used all of that time to kick the winning field goal getting the 20-22 victory.

Rounding out Sunday’s action was the Patriots at the Broncos. I thought the Broncos had this one. Especially once the game got started and New England fumbled the ball away. But Denver couldn’t convert 4th & 2 at the New England 2 yard line. The whole first quarter was a comedy of errors.

Despite all that, the Patriots put up a 16 point lead over the Broncos. But Russell Wilson worked his fourth quarter magic and tied the game at 23-23. The Patriots had to punt and I assumed the Broncos would close out the game. Nope. They also punted. This time Patriots kicker Chad Ryland kicked a 57 yard field goal. Ironic since he had already missed an extra point and a 47 yard field goal.

The Patriots prevailed winning 26-23. Don’t forget that there will be three more NFL games tomorrow.
