Miami Dolphins Have Waived Odell Beckham Jr.

He was hoping for a fresh new start, to revive what was once a stellar career. However, injuries derailed the upward trajectory of the wide receiver. And today the Miami Dolphins announced that they have waived Odell Beckham Jr. He signed with the Dolphins on May 8, 2024, but opened the season on the physically unable to perform list after offseason surgery. That wasn’t the way he envisioned his time in Miami unfolding. He was finally activated on Oct. 5 and played in nine games, totaling nine catches for 55 yards on 18 targets with zero touchdowns for the season. Beckham didn’t have a catch in his first three games while playing just 33 snaps over that span.

According to NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero, the Dolphins and the three-time Pro Bowl WR mutually agreed to part ways, per sources. Beckham is hoping for more opportunities elsewhere and the team is granting his release. He’ll be on waivers until Monday. If he clears waivers, he will be free to sign with any team. Two teams he has played with before, the Rams and Ravens, are currently in playoff contention.

Will the former teams have any interest in the 32 year old receiver? We’ll have to wait and see if he gets any takers. But for the Dolphins, releasing Beckham makes room for rookie wide receiver Malik Washington. Also tight end Jonnu Smith, the eight year veteran has been very involved in Miami’s offense. He was instrumental in the overtime win against the Jets. So it appears Beckham never really found a place on the team.

Beckham has an extensive resume. In his career, he has appeared in 119 games with 97 starts in 10 seasons with the N.Y. Giants (2014-18), Cleveland (2019-21), the L.A. Rams (2021), Baltimore (2023) and Miami (2024), totaling 575 receptions for 7,987 yards (13.9 avg.) and 59 touchdowns and earned three Pro Bowl nominations.

He has also appeared in seven playoff games with six starts, totaling 29 receptions for 350 yards (12.1 avg.) and two scores. Beckham Jr. entered the NFL as the 12th overall selection in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the N.Y. Giants and played collegiately at LSU.

So the question remains, does Beckham still have some gas left in the tank?
