Miami Dolphins Have Agreed To Terms With Jeff Hafley To Be Head Coach
It was not that long ago that the Dolphins parted ways with Mike McDaniel as their head coach. Nor had much time passed since they hired their new general manager. But as it turns out the new general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, has a relationship with the new head coach selected. So the Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with Jeff Hafley to be the new head coach. Yesterday they named Hafley the 12th head coach in franchise history.
Dolphins Chairman and Owner Stephen Ross released a statement:
“I believe great things are ahead for the Miami Dolphins with Jeff Hafley leading the way,” said Dolphins Chairman and Owner Stephen M. Ross. “Jeff is an accomplished coach with a proven track record as a leader and motivator. He has tenacity and grit, while at the same time establishing trust with his players in order to get the most out of them. I am excited to see where Jeff leads us, alongside Jon-Eric Sullivan and our entire football operation, as we seek to return the Dolphins to sustained success.”
“Jeff is a man of integrity, intellect and great passion who players will buy into and play for,” said Dolphins General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. “He has a vision for the kind of team we will be and the ability to motivate them to move in one direction on the path towards that goal. I’m thrilled to go on this journey with him and together we will build a winner that this organization deserves.”
Hafley comes to the Dolphins with 25 years of coaching experience. He spent four years as the head coach of the Boston College Eagles and hails from the Green Bay Packers. Where he spent two years (2024-2025) as their defensive coordinator.

Both media and players have good things to say about Hafley. SI’s Albert Breer noted Hafley’s ability to build relationships and reach players while identifying and developing talent. And former cornerback Logan Ryan, whom Hafley coached at Rutgers, credited him earlier this season for “saving” his career and making a difference in they way he developed as a player.
Even current NFL TV Analyst Richard Sherman praised Hafley, who he played under from 2018 to 2020: “His preparation is some of the best I’ve seen. I’ve had some great [defensive coaches], and he’s right up there with his preparation.”
General Manager Jon-Eric Sullivan feels Hafley has the vision to take the team where it needs to go. He said, “Jeff is a man of integrity, intellect and great passion who players will buy into and play for,” Sullivan said. “He has a vision for the kind of team we will be and the ability to motivate them to move in one direction on the path towards that goal. I’m thrilled to go on this journey with him and together we will build a winner that this organization deserves.”
Congratulations to Jeff Hafley on his promotion to head coach of the Miami Dolphins!
