Mets Pete Alonso to Participate in 2024 Home Run Derby

Major League Baseball’s All Star Week is fast approaching. With several activities for all baseball lovers to enjoy. Including the fan favorite event where players compete to see who can hit the most dingers in a specific allocated time. Guys are already tossing their caps into the mix and proclaiming that they shall be a competitor for the batting extravaganza. For instance, the New York Mets Pete Alonso will participate in the 2024 Home Run Derby.

Last year’s derby (2023) was extremely entertaining. Seeing Adley Rutschman (who even wowed the crowd by switch hitting), Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. smashing balls left and right. Even the Dodgers’ Mookie Betts gave it his best go. But in the end, Vladdy and MLB the Show’s cover star would emerge as the victor.

However, Alonso is still tough competition. He is a returning Home Run Derby champion. And a serious threat to those wishing to take the crown. He is a 4x All-Star, 2x Home Run Derby Champion, with 210 HR and 546 RBI.

While Mets fans continue to deal with the sting of Lindor and Nimmo not being named All Stars. They can at least have solace in the fact that Alonso is an All Star this year and will represent them well.

However, Pete will also face some steep Derby competition. While players like Rafael Devers, Juan Soto, Elly De La Cruz, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge have already declined participation. Baltimore’s Gunnar Henderson, Phillies Alec Bohm and the Texas Rangers’ Bobby Witt Jr. are all ready to do battle.

Additionally, a member of the Atlanta Braves has recently confirmed their entrance into the Derby. Atlanta’s slugger Marcell Ozuna will be on the field obliterating balls for the crowds’ enjoyment. So then, how can you watch all the Home Run Derby action when it goes down?

Well, first you must remember the date. The competition will occur on July 15. Yes, this year’s T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take place at Globe Life Field on July 15 (8 p.m. ET, ESPN). May the best man… and bat, win!
