Mariners Cal Raleigh Hurtling Towards Barry Bonds Most Home Runs by All-Star Break Record

We kinda feel like we spoke this situation into existence lol. Last week we discussed the momentous season that Seattle’s big bat catcher is having; and how close he was to Barry Bonds home run record. Well, now he’s RIGHT THERE to changing the history books yet again. The Mariners Cal Raleigh is hurtling towards Barry Bonds’ most home runs by All-Star break record as he blasts his 38th dinger of the season!

Just amazing. Cal is not only having a historical run in terms of the league; but within the Seattle franchise in general. For instance, thanks to hitting home run number 38 against the Detroit Tigers; he accomplished a feat only achieved by three other players in Major League Baseball. Seattle’s PR Communications confirmed,

List of players in Major League Baseball history with 38+ home runs, 80+ RBI & 9+ stolen bases in their team’s first 94 G of a season:

Babe Ruth – 1921 Yankees

Reggie Jackson – 1969 Athletics

Ken Griffey Jr. – 1998 @Mariners

CAL RALEIGH – 2025 @Mariners

The Mariners also added, “Cal Raleigh is the first player since 1933 (the first MLB
All-Star Game) with 38+ home runs & 80+ RBI before the All-Star Break.” Wild. Plus, there’s still plenty of season left for Big Dumper to put up even more impressive performances and numbers.

Case in point, a little lesson in Mariners legacy by the renowned Sarah Langs. After Seattle won Friday’s matchup, 12-3 over the Tigers; Sarah took a moment to remind baseball enthusiasts of the following stats,

“Most multi-HR games in a season, Mariners history:

2025 Cal Raleigh: 8

1997 Ken Griffey Jr.: 8

1998 Ken Griffey Jr.: 7

1996 Ken Griffey Jr.: 7

1999 Alex Rodriguez: 6

It’s July.”

Great stuff. Nonetheless, getting back to the Barry Bonds business. 24 years ago Bonds hit a staggering 39 home runs before the All-Star break. The most by any major league baseball player at the time.

However, now Raleigh stands just ONE home run away from tying this record. And just TWO away from breaking it. Records are always eventually broken; that’s just how it goes as time drifts by. But now we all get to sit back with some popcorn and see if Cal can get the record over the course of the next two days! To quote one of our favorite sports films, “How can you not be romantic about baseball?”
